THE NIGERIA Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has inaugurated the Civil Defence Security and Anti-Vandalism Club in secondary schools across Enugu State, targeting more than 200 students from over 40 schools.
The initiative is designed to promote security consciousness among young people, discourage vandalism and encourage students to become active advocates for the protection of public infrastructure and government property.
Through the establishment of the clubs, the NSCDC seeks to introduce students to the importance of safeguarding critical national assets, reporting suspicious activities and supporting efforts to prevent the destruction of public facilities.
The participation of students from more than 40 secondary schools represents an opportunity to extend security education beyond conventional enforcement activities and strengthen preventive security awareness within the school system.
The programme also provides a platform for encouraging discipline, responsible citizenship, patriotism and cooperation between young people and security agencies.
By engaging students at an early stage, the initiative is expected to nurture a generation that understands the social and economic consequences of vandalism, including the destruction of electricity infrastructure, public utilities, communication facilities and other essential assets.
The NSCDC’s school-based engagement further highlights the importance of involving educational institutions, parents and communities in the collective responsibility of maintaining public safety.
The success of the initiative will depend on sustained engagement, regular club activities and effective collaboration between the Corps and participating schools.
