THE GOVERNOR OF Enugu State, His Excellency, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, has received an Award of Excellence from the Canon Law Society of Nigeria in recognition of his contributions to governance and public service.
The award was presented during the 38th Convention of the Canon Law Society of Nigeria, held in Enugu, alongside activities marking the 95th birthday celebration of the Society’s founder, Most Rev. Anthony Gbuji.
The gathering brought together members of the Catholic Church, canon law practitioners and other distinguished personalities to celebrate the Society’s institutional heritage and recognise individuals whose contributions have attracted public attention.
Recognition of Leadership and Public Service
The recognition accorded Governor Mbah underscores the importance of acknowledging public service and contributions to societal development.
Since assuming office in May 2023, the Governor has pursued an administration-wide development agenda focused on infrastructure, security, education, healthcare, investment attraction and economic transformation.
His administration has also articulated an ambition to grow Enugu State’s economy from approximately $4.4 billion to $30 billion through strategic investments, institutional reforms and private-sector participation.
Celebrating 95 Years of Most Rev. Anthony Gbuji
The convention also provided an opportunity to celebrate Most Rev. Anthony Gbuji, the founder of the Canon Law Society of Nigeria, on attaining the age of 95.
The milestone offered members of the Catholic community an opportunity to reflect on his contributions to the Church, the development of canon law scholarship and the establishment of an institutional platform for professional engagement among canon lawyers in Nigeria.
Faith, Governance and Societal Development
The convergence of the convention and the birthday celebration highlighted the relationship between religious institutions, ethical leadership, public service and societal development.
The recognition of Governor Mbah at the gathering further brought attention to the role of dialogue and collaboration between government and faith-based institutions in promoting social development, justice and the common good.
