Enugu Media Village (EMV), the Most Updated Online News Platform — Friday, October 30, 2026.

GOVERNOR OF ENUGU  State, His Excellency, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to fulfilling its promises to Ndi Enugu, declaring that the state has made significant progress in its journey towards economic transformation, improved security, infrastructure renewal and human capital development.

The Governor made this declaration on Thursday, October 29, 2026, while delivering his address at the event themed “Our Commitment to Ndi Enugu: The Journey So Far,” held at the Peter Mbah Law Auditorium, Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu.

The event provided an opportunity for the Governor to present his administration’s performance scorecard, assess progress made since assuming office on May 29, 2023, and reaffirm his commitment to the development vision he presented to the people ahead of the 2023 governorship election.

Mbah Appreciates Prof. Christian Anieke’s Contributions

A notable moment in the Governor’s address was his expression of appreciation to the Vice-Chancellor of Godfrey Okoye University, Rev. Fr. Prof. Christian Anieke, for his significant contributions and impact on the university, education and human development in Enugu State.

Governor Mbah acknowledged the important role played by Prof. Anieke in advancing the institution’s academic vision and creating an environment that promotes intellectual development, quality education and the nurturing of future leaders.

He recognised the importance of committed institutional leadership and the contributions of individuals whose dedication to education continues to strengthen the state’s human capital and development prospects.

The Governor’s acknowledgement further underscored the importance of collaboration between government, educational institutions and other stakeholders in building a prosperous and knowledge-driven society.

Returning to Account for His Stewardship

Reflecting on the significance of the gathering, Mbah recalled that he had presented his development manifesto at the same university in October 2022, before the 2023 governorship election.

He explained that returning to the same institution to present his administration’s performance update was a demonstration of his commitment to accountability and the Citizens Charter, established through Executive Order 001, which he signed upon assuming office.

The Governor noted that leadership must go beyond making promises during election campaigns; it must also involve returning to the people to explain what has been achieved, identify outstanding challenges and outline the next steps.

Restoring Security and Rebuilding Public Confidence

In reviewing the journey so far, Mbah recalled the challenges Enugu State faced when his administration assumed office in May 2023.

He highlighted the period when insecurity and sit-at-home restrictions affected commercial activities, disrupted education and deprived many residents of their daily earnings.

According to him, the restoration of normal economic activities, particularly on Mondays, has provided a foundation for renewed business operations, improved mobility and greater public confidence.

He observed that traders can now plan their working weeks, children can attend schools and businesses can operate with greater confidence.

Infrastructure, Education and Healthcare as Development Priorities

The Governor also highlighted his administration’s investments in road infrastructure, public transportation, education and healthcare, describing these sectors as essential pillars of sustainable development.

On education, he reiterated the importance of the Smart Green Schools initiative, which targets the establishment of 260 modern schools across the state’s 260 wards.

He explained that the initiative reflects his administration’s determination to provide children with access to quality education and prepare them for the opportunities and challenges of the future.

On healthcare, he emphasised the need to strengthen healthcare facilities and improve access to quality medical services across the state.

He further identified road construction, aviation development and improved transportation infrastructure as important interventions supporting Enugu’s economic and social transformation.

Reaffirming the $30 Billion Economic Vision

Mbah also reiterated his administration’s ambition to grow Enugu’s economy from approximately $4.4 billion to $30 billion, stressing that the target requires deliberate planning, strategic investments and collective commitment.

He explained that economic transformation must be driven by productive activities, private-sector participation, agriculture, industrialisation, tourism, infrastructure and human capital development.

The Governor maintained that Enugu must position itself as a destination where people can confidently live, work, invest and visit.

Calls for Collective Commitment to Enugu’s Future

In his concluding remarks, the Governor described the present period as a moment of extraordinary possibilities for Enugu State, urging residents to contribute their ideas, skills, enterprise and experience towards building a stronger state.

He encouraged citizens to take an active interest in developments within their communities, identify challenges and work with relevant authorities to develop practical solutions.

Mbah stressed that while government has a responsibility to create the conditions for development, the energy required to sustain progress must also come from the people.

He expressed confidence that through collective responsibility, stronger institutions and sustained commitment, Enugu could build a more productive economy, provide better opportunities for its children and create communities where residents can take pride in their achievements.

Prof. Anieke Commends Governor’s Accountability Initiative

Earlier, the Vice-Chancellor of Godfrey Okoye University, Rev. Fr. Prof. Christian Anieke, commended Governor Mbah for returning to the institution to present an account of his stewardship, nearly four years after presenting his manifesto at the same venue.

Prof. Anieke described the Governor’s return as an important demonstration of accountability and urged other political leaders entrusted with public office to embrace the practice of returning to the people to explain their performance and account for their promises.

He also observed that the achievements of the Mbah administration were visible and verifiable, with several projects and interventions already making an impact across the state.

The event attracted members of the academic community, students, civil society organisations, business owners, professional bodies and other stakeholders.

As Enugu continues its development journey, the Governor’s message reinforced the need for sustained commitment, transparent leadership and active citizen participation in building a state that works for everyone.
