THE 17 LOCAL  Government Council Chairmen in Enugu State have adopted the manifesto of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah as a shared social contract, reaffirming their commitment to aligning grassroots governance with the administration’s development agenda, policy priorities and measurable performance targets.

The position was made known by the Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Enugu State Chapter, and Executive Chairman of Igboeze South Local Government Area, Hon. Ugo Ferdinand Ukwueze, who spoke on behalf of his colleagues during the Governor’s administration performance review themed “Our Commitment to Ndi Enugu: The Journey So Far.”

COUNCILS TO STRENGTHEN ACCOUNTABILITY AND GRASSROOTS DEVELOPMENT

Ukwueze explained that the collective adoption of the manifesto would strengthen coordination between the state and local governments, ensuring that development policies and programmes produce measurable results across the 17 local government areas.

He noted that the councils would align their activities with established performance indicators and monitoring mechanisms to promote accountability, effective project implementation and improved service delivery at the grassroots.

EDUCATION, HEALTHCARE AND ECONOMIC GROWTH TAKE CENTRE STAGE

The ALGON Chairman also highlighted key interventions of the Mbah administration, including the Smart Green Schools initiative, the development of 260 Type-2 Primary Healthcare Centres and the recruitment of healthcare personnel to strengthen the state’s medical workforce.

He further referenced investments in agriculture, transportation, aviation, tourism, industrialisation and energy as critical components of the administration’s broader economic development strategy.

17 COUNCILS REAFFIRM COMMITMENT TO GOVERNMENT’S DEVELOPMENT VISION

Ukwueze maintained that local governments remain essential partners in translating government policies into tangible improvements in the lives of residents.

He assured that the 17 council chairmen would work collaboratively with the state government to advance infrastructure development, improve public services, expand economic opportunities and strengthen community-level participation in governance.

The collective commitment underscores the importance of effective intergovernmental collaboration in advancing the state’s development objectives and ensuring that government interventions reach communities across Enugu State.
