Healthcare and Economic Transformation: Anchorage Pharmaceutical Industries to Create Jobs, Develop Local Talent and Strengthen Medicine Supply.
Enugu Media Village (EMV), the Most Updated Online News Platform — Friday, 23 October 2026.
GOVERNOR OF Enugu State, His Excellency, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, has commissioned Anchorage Pharmaceutical Industries Limited, a multi-billion-naira pharmaceutical manufacturing company located in Trans-Ekulu, Enugu, in a major development expected to strengthen local medicine production, create employment opportunities and support healthcare delivery.
The commissioning took place on Thursday, October 22, 2026, according to reports published by Premium Times and Tribune Online.
The investment represents an important addition to Enugu State’s industrial landscape, with potential benefits for pharmaceutical manufacturing, healthcare supply chains, professional skills development and the wider economy.
MBAH: INVESTMENT IN PUBLIC HEALTH AND ECONOMIC GROWTH
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Governor Mbah described the facility as more than a pharmaceutical business, characterising it as an investment in public health, economic development and the future of young people.
The governor congratulated the company’s founder, board and management, noting that establishing a manufacturing enterprise requires significant commitment and confidence in the investment environment.
He said the facility would create employment opportunities, provide internship placements and facilitate skills transfer, enabling more young people to acquire practical experience and build careers within Enugu State.
Mbah also reaffirmed his administration’s interest in supporting locally manufactured products, particularly those capable of meeting quality standards and contributing to essential public services.
According to the report, the governor disclosed that the state government would explore commercial partnerships with Anchorage to supply medicines to its central medical stores and primary healthcare facilities.
He further noted that Enugu was developing 260 Type-2 primary healthcare centres, which would require reliable supplies of essential medicines to serve communities effectively.
The proposed partnership, if concluded, could strengthen links between local manufacturing and the state’s public healthcare delivery system.
ALLISON MADUEKE PRAISES ENUGU’S INVESTMENT ENVIRONMENT
The Chairman of Anchorage Pharmaceutical Industries Limited’s Board of Directors, Rear Admiral Allison Madueke (Rtd.), commended Governor Mbah for creating what he described as an investment-friendly environment in Enugu State.
Madueke described Anchorage as a legacy project conceived to generate employment, develop local talent and contribute to economic prosperity.
He emphasised the importance of private enterprise in expanding economic opportunities, improving productivity and supporting sustainable development.
The former Chief of Naval Staff also highlighted the company’s commitment to product quality, patient safety, regulatory compliance and sound corporate governance.
His remarks underscored the importance of collaboration between government and private investors in establishing industries that can support local production and reduce dependence on imported products.
ANCHORAGE PRIORITISES QUALITY AND PATIENT SAFETY
In his remarks, the Managing Director of Anchorage Pharmaceutical Industries Limited, Engr. Chima Madueke, said the company was founded on the principles of quality and wellness, reflected in its slogan: “Anchored in Quality, Committed to Wellness.”
According to the commissioning reports, the managing director stated that the company had obtained the necessary approvals and clearances from the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN).
He reaffirmed the company’s commitment to quality assurance and said it was open to supplying hospitals, healthcare institutions and pharmacies directly.
The company also expressed its intention to contribute to efforts against fake and substandard medicines in Nigeria.
Sustaining these objectives will require consistent compliance with applicable manufacturing standards, rigorous quality-control procedures, appropriate product authorisations and effective post-market monitoring.
A BOOST FOR ENUGU’S INDUSTRIAL AND HEALTHCARE SECTORS
The commissioning aligns with the Mbah administration’s broader ambition to expand Enugu’s economic base, attract private-sector investment and create opportunities for residents.
Pharmaceutical manufacturing can generate benefits beyond direct factory employment. These may include opportunities for pharmacists, laboratory professionals, engineers, technicians, logistics providers, distributors and other supporting businesses.
A stronger local pharmaceutical industry can also improve the resilience of medicine supply chains, although the extent of that benefit depends on production capacity, affordability, product quality and reliable distribution.
For Enugu State, the opportunity lies in building an industrial ecosystem in which local manufacturers can serve public and private healthcare providers while creating skilled employment and attracting further investment.
The state government’s proposed engagement with Anchorage could be particularly significant if it results in transparent procurement arrangements, competitive pricing, reliable supplies and demonstrable improvements in access to essential medicines.
SUPPORTING THE $30 BILLION ECONOMY AMBITION
Governor Mbah has set an ambitious target of growing Enugu State’s economy from an estimated $4.4 billion to $30 billion.
Achieving that goal will require sustained private investment, increased industrial production, expanded employment, improved infrastructure and stronger participation by local businesses in the economy.
The commissioning of Anchorage Pharmaceutical Industries adds another investment to the state’s manufacturing landscape and reflects the potential role of private capital in supporting economic transformation.
However, the project’s long-term contribution will ultimately be measured by its operational capacity, the number and quality of jobs created, its output, compliance with regulatory standards and its ability to deliver affordable, quality medicines to the market.
EMV: LOCAL INDUSTRIES CAN DRIVE NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT
The establishment of pharmaceutical manufacturing capacity in Enugu highlights the importance of promoting local enterprise, strengthening healthcare supply chains and developing skilled human capital.
As the company begins operations, public attention will reasonably focus on its production capacity, employment outcomes, regulatory compliance and potential partnerships with healthcare institutions.
The development also reinforces the need for government policies that encourage responsible investment while ensuring that public health, consumer protection and accountability remain central priorities.
