ENUGU, NIGERIA — The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State has officially flagged off its campaign ahead of the September 26, 2026 Local Government elections, expressing confidence in securing victory across Udenu, Igbo-Eze North and Igbo-Eze South Local Government Areas.
The campaign rallies, held at the headquarters of the three councils, attracted party leaders, traditional rulers, market and trade union leaders, women, youths and other supporters as the APC commenced an intensified grassroots mobilisation drive.
Addressing party supporters, the Enugu State APC Chairman, Dr. Martin Chukwunweike, presented the party’s flags to its chairmanship and councillorship candidates and urged voters across the three local government areas to support the APC at the polls.
Chukwunweike said the party’s performance during the June 20 Enugu North Senatorial District by-election had strengthened its confidence ahead of the September council elections.
He described the by-election as a test of the party’s popularity in the area, expressing optimism that voters would once again turn out in large numbers to support APC candidates.
The APC chairman also used the campaign platform to appeal to Enugu voters to support Governor Peter Mbah’s second-term ambition, arguing that the governor deserves another term based on his administration’s performance.
He further called for support for President Bola Tinubu and other APC candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections, effectively linking the ongoing council election mobilisation with the party’s broader political strategy.
The September 26 council election is expected to generate heightened political activity across Enugu State, with parties intensifying their grassroots campaigns as the election date approaches. The Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC) has scheduled the poll for September 26, with campaigns expected to continue until September 25.
The APC’s latest campaign flag-off therefore marks another significant step in the unfolding political contest at the grassroots and could further shape the political atmosphere in Enugu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
