ENUGU State Governor, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, has inaugurated the 17 newly elected Local Government Area chairmen and their deputies, charging them to make grassroots development, accountability and effective service delivery the focus of their administrations.
The inauguration followed the September 26, 2026 local government elections, in which the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC) declared candidates across all 17 local government areas elected.
At the swearing-in ceremony, Governor Mbah urged the new council leaders to see their mandates as a responsibility to the people and to translate their electoral victories into tangible development across their respective communities.
He charged them to prioritise projects and programmes that directly address the needs of residents, particularly in areas such as basic infrastructure, healthcare, education, youth empowerment, agriculture, sanitation and local economic development.
The Governor also emphasised the importance of accountability and responsible management of public resources, urging the council chairmen and their deputies to work closely with communities and other stakeholders in identifying and addressing grassroots challenges.
The 17 newly elected chairmen emerged after ENSIEC formally declared the results of the September 26 council elections and issued certificates of return to the successful candidates.
The development marks the commencement of a new phase of elected local government administration across Enugu State, with the new council leadership expected to bring governance closer to residents and accelerate development at the grassroots.
The inauguration further comes against the backdrop of the Mbah administration’s emphasis on strengthening local government institutions and ensuring that development extends beyond urban centres to communities across the state’s 17 LGAs.
Enugu Media Village (EMV) reports that the new council administrations are expected to commence their respective mandates with a strong focus on service delivery, community engagement, inclusive development and improved grassroots governance.
