The Wife of the Enugu State Governor, Mrs. Nkechinyere Mbah, has commended the Correctional Service Training School Enugu (CSTSE) for its efforts in equipping and certifying correctional personnel with the professional skills required to maintain safe, secure and humane custodial institutions.

Mrs. Mbah gave the commendation on Thursday during a novelty football match and cultural display organised at the training school in honour of Monsignor Prof. Obiora Ike, President and Founder of the Catholic Institute for Development, Justice and Peace (CIDJAP).

Represented at the event by the Enugu State Chairperson of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Mrs. Rita Edeh, the First Lady praised the school for its commitment to the reformation, rehabilitation and reintegration of inmates, noting that correctional work requires discipline, commitment and compassion.

She also commended the Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Sylvester Nwakuche, and the Commandant of CSTSE, Controller of Corrections Miriam Mere, for their contributions to the development of correctional administration and personnel training.

The Commandant, Controller of Corrections Miriam Mere, described Prof. Ike as an important contributor to social justice, human dignity and institutional transformation, particularly through CIDJAP’s work in inmate welfare, free legal aid and restorative justice.

The event featured a novelty football match between the CSTSE Staff Team and participants of the 12th Development Course, which ended in a goalless draw, as well as cultural performances by course participants drawn from more than 21 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

Prof. Ike, in response, commended the Nigerian Correctional Service for its investments in the training school and pledged continued support. He also donated four water storage tanks towards the school’s ongoing water rehabilitation and reticulation project.

The programme further featured a guard-of-honour inspection and presentation of appreciation plaques to Prof. Ike and the General Manager of Rangers International FC Enugu, Amobi Ezeaku, in recognition of their contributions to social justice, inmate rehabilitation and staff development through sports.
