TROOPS of the Nigerian Army’s Joint Task Force South East, Operation UDO KA, have rescued three kidnapped victims and dismantled a suspected terrorist and kidnapping syndicate’s hideout in Anambra State.

The operation was conducted by troops of the 185 Battalion in collaboration with the Anambra Vigilante Group, following the abduction of three persons around the Osakwa General Area of Ihiala Local Government Area. The victims were subsequently rescued by the troops.

According to the Army, a follow-up operation on October 1 led to the arrest of a suspected kidnapper identified as Sunday Obi. Information obtained during the investigation reportedly guided troops to a suspected syndicate camp at Abator in Ogbaru Local Government Area, across the Isieke waterside.

Troops subsequently accessed the area through the waterways and engaged suspected members of the group, who reportedly fled the location with gunshot wounds.

The operation resulted in the recovery of two AK-47 rifles with magazines, three pump-action guns and three locally fabricated Dane guns. Security personnel also recovered 62 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, 149 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition, two cartridges and materials suspected to be intended for the fabrication of improvised explosive devices.

Other items recovered from the hideout included a solar generator, power bank, car battery, two motorcycle batteries, two solar panels and two mobile phones.

The Nigerian Army said the recovery provided additional intelligence on the logistics network supporting kidnapping and other criminal activities in the area. It added that follow-up operations were ongoing to apprehend fleeing suspects, their collaborators, logistics suppliers and other facilitators.

Operation UDO KA, the Army stated, will continue coordinated operations with other security agencies and local stakeholders to disrupt criminal networks and strengthen the protection of communities across the South-East.
