The All Progressives Congress (APC) has commenced reconciliation efforts in Oyo, Osun, Kwara, Benue and Niger states, deploying National Working Committee (NWC) delegations to address internal disputes ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The move follows concerns over disagreements arising from the party’s governorship, National Assembly and State House of Assembly primaries in the affected states. Reports indicate that some of the disputes have resulted in litigation, defections and threats of further defections by aggrieved members.

The APC’s latest intervention follows a three-day strategic retreat held by the party’s national leadership in Maiduguri, Borno State, where the party reviewed its structures across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

According to APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, reconciliation with aggrieved members was identified as a key component of the party’s preparations for the 2027 elections.

In Oyo State, internal disagreements have reportedly emerged around the governorship primary and the emergence of Senator Sharafadeen Alli as the party’s candidate. Similar disputes connected to candidate selection and other political developments have been reported in Kwara, Benue, Osun and Niger states.

The APC leadership has also resolved to encourage reconciliation committees at the state, local government and ward levels, with the aim of providing mechanisms for resolving grievances within the party.

The development comes as political parties intensify organisational preparations and internal engagements ahead of the 2027 general elections, with candidate selection, party structures and member mobilisation becoming increasingly prominent issues.

The APC had earlier stated that its national leadership would take a more active role in party engagements and campaign activities as the electoral cycle progresses.

The reconciliation initiative is therefore expected to focus on addressing outstanding grievances and improving coordination among party members and structures in the five affected states.
