ENUGU State Governor, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, is advancing an economic development vision that places Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) at the centre of job creation, enterprise development and sustainable economic growth.

The vision was demonstrated at the 2025 Enugu 042 NaijaBrandChick Trade Fair, which recorded 35,222 attendees, 6,033 transactions, over 100 participating businesses, and an estimated ₦750 million in sales, according to figures released by the Enugu MSME & Startup Agency (Enugu SME Center).

The trade fair also supported more than 1,000 jobs across the wider value chain, while over 70 per cent of participating exhibitors were businesses based in Enugu State.

These figures highlight the potential of organised trade fairs to connect local entrepreneurs with customers, expand market access, increase sales and create opportunities for business growth.

Beyond Sales: Supporting Jobs and Local Businesses

Beyond the direct commercial transactions, the event generated economic activity across related sectors, including hospitality, transportation and local services.

Increased patronage of these sectors demonstrates how events designed to promote MSMEs can create benefits that extend beyond participating businesses to other service providers and workers within the local economy.

For Enugu-based entrepreneurs, the trade fair also offered an opportunity to showcase their products, build customer relationships, improve brand visibility and explore new markets.

The participation of businesses from across the state further reinforced the importance of providing local enterprises with platforms to compete, connect and grow.

Mbah’s Economic Vision and MSME Development

Under Governor Mbah’s administration, enterprise development is being positioned as an important component of Enugu’s broader economic transformation agenda.

By promoting business opportunities, encouraging market access and supporting entrepreneurship, the state aims to strengthen the contribution of MSMEs to employment, household incomes and economic productivity.

MSMEs play a critical role in local economies because they provide goods and services, create employment opportunities and support commercial activities across different sectors.

However, sustained growth requires more than participation in trade fairs. Access to affordable finance, reliable infrastructure, business development support, digital tools and consistent market opportunities remain important factors in helping enterprises expand.

The trade fair’s reported results therefore provide a useful basis for assessing how business promotion initiatives can contribute to the state’s wider development objectives.

From Vision to Measurable Impact

The 2025 Enugu 042 NaijaBrandChick Trade Fair presents an example of how entrepreneurship-focused initiatives can translate economic ambitions into measurable commercial activity.

With thousands of attendees, thousands of recorded transactions and hundreds of millions of naira in estimated sales, the event underscores the importance of creating platforms where businesses can reach customers and convert visibility into revenue.

Going forward, sustained support for MSMEs will be essential to ensuring that such opportunities translate into long-term business survival, expansion, decent jobs and increased economic participation.

For Enugu, the broader objective is to build an economy in which local businesses can thrive, employment opportunities can expand and enterprise development contributes meaningfully to prosperity across the state.
