THE Rivers State Police Command has suspended the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Abuloma Division following controversy surrounding the renovation of a police outpost by suspected cult members.

The development followed the circulation of a video showing suspected members of the DNKI (Vikings) group, reportedly identified with the Trans Marine Platoon in Trans Amadi, Rivers State, visiting the renovated Abuloma Police Outpost for its unveiling.

According to a report by Goldmyne, the individuals allegedly repainted and redesigned parts of the facility. They also reportedly mounted a signpost outside the outpost bearing a message warning members of the community against criminal activities.

The video triggered widespread public criticism, with many Nigerians questioning the circumstances surrounding the renovation and expressing concern over the apparent association between suspected cult members and a public law enforcement facility.

Police Condemn Action, Suspend Two Officers:

Reacting to the incident in a statement issued on Friday, October 16, 2026, the Police Command, through its spokesperson, Agabe Blessing, condemned any conduct capable of undermining the integrity and professional standards of the Nigeria Police Force.

The Command stressed that police facilities are public institutions established to protect citizens and enforce the law, warning that such facilities must not be used by suspected criminal groups to gain public recognition or legitimacy.

The police further stated that any association capable of compromising discipline, professionalism and public confidence in the Force would not be tolerated.

Consequently, the DPO in charge of Abuloma Division and the officer overseeing the affected police outpost were suspended, according to the report.

The Command, under Commissioner of Police Olugbenga A. Adepoju, reaffirmed its commitment to tackling criminality and maintaining public trust in the police.

The incident has renewed concerns about the relationship between law enforcement institutions and suspected criminal groups, as residents and members of the public await further clarification on the circumstances surrounding the renovation.

The police are expected to address the matter in line with established disciplinary procedures and ensure accountability where misconduct is established.
