EKITI State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has officially commenced his second four-year term in office following his swearing-in alongside his deputy, Monisade Afuye, at a ceremony held at the Ekiti Parapo Pavilion in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.
The inauguration ceremony, held on Friday, was attended by prominent political leaders, governors, federal lawmakers and other top government officials. The Chief Judge of Ekiti State, Justice Adekanye Ogunmoye, administered the oaths of allegiance and office to the governor and his deputy.
Oyebanji’s return to office follows his victory in the June 20, 2026, governorship election, in which he secured 319,224 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Oluwole Oluyede of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who polled 40,543 votes. Dare Bejide of the African Democratic Party (ADP) came third with 12,872 votes, according to results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
During the inauguration, the governor pledged to consolidate the achievements of his first administration and pursue policies and programmes aimed at improving residents’ living conditions over the next four years.
Vice President Kashim Shettima represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the event. Other dignitaries included Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda and governors from several states, including Imo, Kwara, Ondo, Sokoto, Kebbi and Jigawa.
Former Ondo State Governor Olusegun Mimiko, former Osun State Governor Bisi Akande and other senior political figures were also present.
Tinubu Congratulates Oyebanji
President Tinubu had earlier congratulated Oyebanji on his re-election, commending the people of Ekiti State for their peaceful conduct during the election and praising security agencies for maintaining law and order.
The President attributed Oyebanji’s electoral success to his administration’s performance in infrastructure development, agriculture, youth employment, education, healthcare and rural development under the governor’s BAO agenda.
Tinubu also urged the governor to demonstrate magnanimity in victory and work with stakeholders across political divides to advance the state’s development.
Oyebanji’s second term now presents another opportunity for his administration to deepen ongoing programmes, strengthen public service delivery and pursue policies that improve the welfare of Ekiti residents.
