Enugu Media Village (EMV), the Most Updated Online News Platform — 20 October 2026.
ENUGU State is set to host prominent political leaders, government officials, media professionals and other stakeholders as the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Enugu Correspondents’ Chapel, prepares for the grand finale of its 2026 Press Week on Thursday, October 22.
The event will feature the Governor of Enugu State, His Excellency, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, as Chief Guest of Honour; the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, as guest lecturer; and the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ola Olukoyede, as keynote speaker.
According to reports published on October 20, the grand finale will take place at the NUJ Press Centre in Enugu, bringing together stakeholders to deliberate on responsible journalism, democratic development and the media’s role in the fight against corruption.
Focus on Responsible Journalism and the 2027 Elections
Senator Umahi is expected to deliver a lecture on the theme, “Strengthening Democracy Through Responsible Journalism: 2027 Polls in Focus.”
His presentation is expected to address the importance of professional journalism in strengthening democratic institutions, promoting informed public participation and supporting credible electoral processes ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.
Meanwhile, EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede will deliver the keynote address on the sub-theme, “The Role of the Media and Other Critical Stakeholders in Sustaining the Fight Against Corruption.”
The discussions are expected to highlight the importance of collaboration between journalists, anti-corruption institutions, government agencies and citizens in promoting transparency, accountability and responsible public administration.
Mbah’s Expected Participation Highlights Enugu’s Media Engagement
Governor Peter Mbah’s expected participation further places Enugu at the centre of discussions on governance, public accountability and the responsibilities of the media in a democratic society.
As the state pursues its development agenda under the Tomorrow Is Here vision, the engagement offers an opportunity for constructive dialogue between government and media professionals on development communication, public information and citizens’ access to credible news.
The event also provides a platform for journalists to reflect on their constitutional responsibility to hold public institutions accountable while maintaining fairness, accuracy, independence and professionalism.
Distinguished Personalities to Receive Recognition
The grand finale will also feature the recognition of distinguished personalities for their contributions across different sectors.
Among those expected to be honoured are the Deputy National Chairman (South) of the All Progressives Congress, Barrister Ben Nwoye; the Executive Director of the Projects Development Institute (PRODA), Enugu, Dr. Peter Okwudilichukwu Ogbobe; and the Enugu State Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa.
Other personalities listed for recognition include Mr. Peter Eze, Commissioner representing Enugu State at the Federal Character Commission; Mr. Amobi Ezeaku, General Manager of Rangers International Football Club; and medical expert Dr. Celestine Chijioke Ugwuoke.
The occasion will be chaired by Chief Anthony Ani, SAN, a former Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in Enugu State.
Press Week Activities Promote Unity and Community Service
The 2026 Press Week commenced on Sunday, October 18, with a thanksgiving service at Christian Victory Prayer Ministry, popularly known as Precious Church, in Enugu.
The programme continued on Monday, October 19, with a radio engagement on Solid 100.9 FM, Enugu, where journalists discussed the Press Week and related activities alongside representatives of PRODA.
A novelty football match involving members of the Chapel and the PRODA team is scheduled for Tuesday, October 20, at the Rangers Training Pitch, Independence Layout, Enugu. A humanitarian visit to a motherless babies’ home is also scheduled for Wednesday, October 21.
These activities reflect the Chapel’s effort to combine professional development, fellowship, humanitarian service and stronger relationships among institutions and stakeholders.
A Call for Credible Journalism and Democratic Accountability
As Nigeria approaches another general election cycle, the need for accurate reporting, ethical journalism and responsible public communication remains critical.
Media organisations have a significant role in helping citizens understand public policies, scrutinise political promises, assess government performance and participate meaningfully in democratic processes.
The forthcoming NUJ Press Week grand finale is therefore expected to provide an important platform for renewed conversations on media responsibility, the fight against corruption and the collective pursuit of accountable leadership and national development.
