Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, has outlined major projects and investments across key sectors of the state, saying the initiatives are interconnected and deliberately designed to expand the economy, create employment opportunities and improve the state’s revenue base.

Governor Mbah spoke during an interactive session with editors following a tour of major projects undertaken by his administration on the sidelines of the 2026 All Nigerian Editors Conference (ANEC) in Enugu. More than 300 editors, senior media executives and veterans participated in the conference and project tour.

The Governor explained that investments in transportation, aviation, tourism, education, healthcare, security and industry form part of a broader economic strategy aimed at creating an environment where people can live, work, invest and build sustainable futures in Enugu.

Among the projects highlighted were the Enugu International Hospital, Smart Schools, modern transport terminals, Hotel Presidential, rehabilitated industries, tourism facilities, the Enugu Ranch and the emerging New City, alongside extensive road infrastructure.

Tourism as an Economic Driver

Governor Mbah said the administration’s tourism investments are intended to attract more visitors and stimulate hospitality, investment and employment opportunities across the state.

He highlighted ongoing developments at Ngwo Pine Forest, the proposed Okpatu-Awhum tourism corridor, the Nsude Pyramids and other heritage and recreational sites.

The Enugu State Executive Council recently approved the 5.325-kilometre Enugu Cable Car Project, connecting Okpatu Hill to the Awhum Waterfall tourism corridor, as well as the Atakwu-Akegbe-Ugwu Tourism Park and access roads to major tourism destinations.

Revenue Beyond Taxation

On internally generated revenue, Mbah said Enugu’s increased revenue performance was being driven significantly by productive assets and businesses rather than taxation.

According to the Governor, the state ended 2025 with ₦406 billion in revenue, compared with about ₦25 billion in 2023. He further stated that less than 13 per cent of the state’s IGR comes from taxation, while more than 87 per cent is generated through businesses and economic assets activated by the administration.

He cited the revival and operation of assets including United Palm Products, Sunrise Flour Mill, Niger Gas, Hotel Presidential, International Conference Centre and transport terminals as part of the strategy to unlock previously underutilised economic assets.

Education and Healthcare Investments

The Governor also pointed to the administration’s large-scale investment in education and healthcare as part of its human-capital development strategy.

He said more than 7,000 classrooms had been delivered within two and a half years, alongside furniture, solar systems and digital infrastructure, while Smart Green Schools are designed to expose students to modern 21st-century learning skills.

The Governor maintained that the ultimate objective of the projects is not merely the construction of physical infrastructure, but the creation of an economy capable of generating opportunities, attracting investment and improving the standard of living of Ndi Enugu.

The project tour and subsequent interaction with the editors provided an opportunity for the media to independently observe several ongoing and completed projects across the state. The Nigerian Guild of Editors subsequently noted the presence of substantial infrastructure across sectors visited.
