GOVERNOR PETER Ndubuisi Mbah of Enugu State has inaugurated the All Progressives Congress (APC) Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 general elections, unveiling a 51-directorate structure to coordinate the party’s campaign activities across the state.
The inauguration took place on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, at the International Conference Centre (ICC), Enugu, with Governor Mbah serving as chairman of the council.
The Deputy Governor, Barr. Ifeanyi Ossai; APC Deputy National Chairman (South), Dr. Ben Nwoye; Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Uchenna Ugwu; state APC Chairman, Dr. Martin Chukwunweike; and Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, were named among the council’s vice chairmen.
Chief Charlie Mbah was appointed Director-General of the campaign organisation, while Dr. Eric Oluedo will serve as Secretary-General. Former Senate President Ken Nnamani, former governors and other prominent political and public figures are among those listed on the council’s advisory structure.
Mbah Calls for Performance-Based Campaign
Addressing party leaders and members at the ceremony, Governor Mbah urged APC faithful to take the administration’s record of governance to the electorate as the party prepares for the 2027 elections.
He attributed his administration’s capacity to execute development projects partly to the economic reforms and increased financial resources available to state governments under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
The governor also called on party members to communicate the policies and projects of both the Enugu State Government and the Federal Government, while expressing confidence in the APC’s electoral prospects.
His remarks placed infrastructure, public services and the administration’s development agenda at the centre of the proposed campaign messaging.
Campaign to Reach Communities Across Enugu
Governor Mbah announced plans to visit all 68 Development Centres in the state as part of the campaign programme. He also pledged to visit markets and communities and participate in the commissioning of projects across the state’s 260 political wards.
According to the governor, the planned engagements will include Smart Green Schools and Type-2 Primary Healthcare Centres, alongside other development projects.
The proposed grassroots approach is intended to bring the campaign closer to residents and provide opportunities for direct engagement between political leaders and communities.
Campaign Leadership Outlines Inclusive Strategy
Chief Charlie Mbah, the campaign organisation’s Director-General, pledged to coordinate an organised and inclusive campaign covering the three senatorial districts, local government areas, wards, communities and polling units.
The council’s structure includes directorates responsible for public communication, new media and strategic communication, women mobilisation, parliamentary mobilisation, security, election planning and monitoring, fundraising, and engagement with government appointees.
Senator Osita Ngwu, Senator Ikeje Asogwa and Senator Kelvin Chukwu were named coordinators for Enugu West, Enugu North and Enugu East Senatorial Districts, respectively.
The broad structure is expected to coordinate party activities and establish communication channels between the campaign leadership and APC members across the state.
Development Record Takes Centre Stage
Governor Mbah also referenced Enugu State’s reported performance in recent business-environment and state-performance assessments, presenting the administration’s development record as a key element of the party’s proposed campaign.
However, as political parties prepare for the 2027 elections, residents will have an opportunity to assess the claims made by political leaders against independently verifiable evidence, project delivery, service quality and the everyday experiences of citizens.
For Ndi Enugu, issues such as roads, education, healthcare, employment, security and economic opportunities are likely to remain important areas of public interest as the election approaches.
The inauguration marks a formal step in the APC’s preparations for the 2027 general elections in Enugu State. The council’s eventual effectiveness will depend on its organisation, public engagement and ability to address the concerns and priorities of voters.
