GOVERNOR OF ENUGU — State, His Excellecy, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, has reaffirmed his commitment to the development and prosperity of Ndi Enugu, declaring that his administration remains focused on delivering its promises, consolidating ongoing reforms and creating a stronger foundation for the state’s future.

The Governor made this declaration on Thursday, October 29, 2026, during an engagement themed “Our Commitment to Ndi Enugu: The Journey So Far,” held at the Peter Mbah Law Auditorium, Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu.

The event provided an opportunity for the Governor to review his administration’s performance since assuming office on May 29, 2023, present key achievements and outline the priorities guiding the next phase of Enugu’s development.

A Commitment That Goes Beyond Promises

Mbah emphasised that leadership must be measured not only by promises made during election campaigns but also by the willingness to account for performance, confront challenges and remain committed to the aspirations of the people.

He recalled presenting his development manifesto at Godfrey Okoye University in October 2022, ahead of the 2023 governorship election, noting that returning to the same institution to present an account of his stewardship reflected his administration’s commitment to accountability.

The Governor explained that his development agenda is anchored on a long-term vision of transforming Enugu into a productive, economically competitive and investment-friendly state.

He further indicated that the development process must continue beyond immediate achievements, with sustained attention to projects, policies and programmes capable of improving the lives of residents.

Security and Economic Confidence Remain Priorities

Reflecting on the challenges confronting the state when he assumed office, Mbah highlighted insecurity and sit-at-home restrictions as major concerns that affected commercial activities, education and the livelihoods of residents.

He noted that restoring normal economic activities, particularly on Mondays, was important to rebuilding public confidence and creating an enabling environment for businesses and workers.

The Governor identified the sustenance of security and the protection of economic activities as important priorities for the continued development of Enugu State.

Infrastructure, Education and Healthcare: Sustaining the Development Agenda

Mbah also highlighted investments in road infrastructure, transportation, education and healthcare as important pillars of his administration’s development programme.

On education, he reiterated the importance of the Smart Green Schools initiative, which targets 260 modern schools across the state’s 260 wards.

The programme is designed to improve learning environments, expand access to quality education and prepare children for the opportunities of a technology-driven economy.

In healthcare, the Governor emphasised the need to strengthen medical facilities and improve access to quality healthcare services across the state.

He also identified road construction, aviation development and transportation infrastructure as important components of the broader strategy to improve connectivity, stimulate investment and support economic activities.

Reaffirming the $30 Billion Economic Vision

The Governor reiterated his administration’s ambition to grow Enugu’s economy from approximately $4.4 billion to $30 billion.

He explained that achieving this target would require strategic investments, private-sector participation and deliberate efforts to strengthen agriculture, manufacturing, tourism, technology and other productive sectors.

According to the development vision presented, Enugu must become a state where investors can confidently establish businesses, young people can access economic opportunities and communities can benefit from expanding commercial activities.

The Governor stressed that economic transformation requires the collective contribution of government, the private sector, professionals, entrepreneurs, young people and ordinary residents.

Looking Ahead: Continuity, Consolidation and Greater Opportunities

Addressing the future of Enugu State, Mbah reaffirmed his determination to sustain the development direction of his administration and pursue outstanding priorities.

He indicated that the next phase of development should focus on consolidating existing interventions, strengthening institutions, expanding economic opportunities and ensuring that ongoing reforms translate into measurable improvements in the lives of Ndi Enugu.

His stated development priorities include sustained investment in infrastructure, improved educational outcomes, stronger healthcare delivery, security, youth development and the expansion of the state’s productive economy.

The Governor also called on residents to remain actively involved in the development process by contributing ideas, skills, enterprise and experience towards addressing challenges in their communities.

He maintained that while government has a responsibility to provide leadership and create an enabling environment, sustainable progress also requires cooperation and shared responsibility among citizens.

Mbah Appreciates Prof. Christian Anieke’s Contributions

A notable moment during the address was the Governor’s appreciation of the Vice-Chancellor of Godfrey Okoye University, Rev. Fr. Prof. Christian Anieke, for his contributions to education, institutional development and human capital advancement.

Mbah acknowledged the Vice-Chancellor’s role in advancing the university’s academic vision and promoting an environment that supports intellectual development and the training of future leaders.

He recognised the importance of educational institutions and committed individuals in strengthening the state’s human capital and supporting the broader development agenda.

Earlier, Prof. Anieke commended the Governor for returning to the institution to account for his stewardship. He described the engagement as an important demonstration of accountability and encouraged public office holders to explain their performance and account for their promises.

A SHARED FUTURE FOR NDI ENUGU

The engagement reinforced the importance of accountability, continuity in development planning and active citizen participation in shaping Enugu State’s future.

As the state approaches another electoral cycle, the Governor’s development vision and stated commitment to continuing ongoing programmes will remain important subjects of public discussion and assessment.

For Ndi Enugu, the ultimate measure of progress will be the extent to which government policies and investments deliver improved infrastructure, accessible public services, economic opportunities and better living conditions across all communities.
