President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Muhammed Bello Bala Shagari on his election as Chairperson of the Non-Aligned Movement Youth Organisation (NAMYO) for the 2026–2029 term.
The President described Shagari’s emergence as a significant achievement for Nigeria and recognition of his contributions to youth development and international engagement.
Shagari, who previously served as NAMYO Vice Chairperson for Africa and as President of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, is expected to use the new position to promote youth cooperation, peace, sustainable development and the aspirations of young people across the Global South.
President Tinubu urged the newly elected NAMYO Chairperson to uphold the principles of service, inclusiveness and mutual respect as he leads the organisation.
He also reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to creating opportunities for Nigerian youths to participate meaningfully in national development and assume leadership responsibilities both within Nigeria and internationally.
According to the President, the administration will continue supporting initiatives focused on skills development, entrepreneurship, innovation, education, sustainable development and greater youth participation in public and international affairs.
Shagari’s election followed a competitive international contest involving representatives from NAMYO member countries. He is expected to formally assume the chairmanship for the 2026–2029 term.
President Tinubu wished Shagari a successful tenure and assured him of the Federal Government’s support as he takes on the international youth leadership responsibility.
Enugu Media Village (EMV) reports that the development further places a Nigerian youth leader at the forefront of an international platform focused on cooperation, peacebuilding, sustainable development and youth participation.
