Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, on Friday, October 2, visited Awgu Local Government Area of the state, where he attended the swearing-in ceremony of 2,101 members of the 2026 Batch ‘C’ Stream of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) deployed to Enugu State.

The Governor used the occasion to reaffirm his administration’s commitment to the welfare, safety and wellbeing of corps members serving in the state, while urging the newly inducted youths to see their service year as an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to national development.

Governor Mbah also announced that the Enugu State Government would commence the payment of a new allowance to corps members serving in the state in October, although the amount of the allowance was not disclosed.

Mbah Inspects NYSC Orientation Camp Projects

During the visit, Governor Mbah toured the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Awgu, inspecting completed and ongoing projects being undertaken by the Enugu State Government to improve facilities and make the camp more conducive for corps members.

The NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs. Oluwakemi Awolola, commended the state government for its continued support for the scheme, particularly its interventions in the comprehensive upgrade of facilities at the Awgu orientation camp and its commitment to the welfare and security of corps members.

According to the NYSC, the 2,101 corps members comprise 983 males and 1,118 females, who were formally sworn in as part of the 2026 Batch ‘C’ Stream orientation exercise.

Mbah Charges Corps Members on Patriotism, National Unity

Addressing the corps members, Governor Mbah called for the building of a Nigeria that creates opportunities for its young people and earns their patriotism through quality education, skills development, employment, enterprise opportunities and effective institutions.

He urged the corps members to build cordial relationships with their host communities, respect local cultures and languages, and approach the NYSC programme as participants in a national project rather than merely fulfilling a compulsory assignment.

The Governor further stressed the importance of creating a country where young Nigerians can pursue opportunities at home while also having the freedom to travel abroad by choice rather than out of compulsion.

Enugu Government Strengthens Support for NYSC

The Awgu visit reflects the Enugu State Government’s continued engagement with the NYSC and its efforts to improve the conditions under which corps members undertake their national service in the state.

The ceremony featured the formal administration of the oath of allegiance to the new corps members, a parade and other activities marking the commencement of the orientation programme.

The Chief Judge of Enugu State, Justice Afojulu Ozoemena, was represented at the ceremony by Justice Anthony Onovo, who administered the oath to the corps members.
