President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated former Group Chief Executive Officer of First Bank of Nigeria, Dr. Adesola Adeduntan, on his installation as the Balogun of Oyo, urging him to deploy his wealth of professional experience, leadership skills and influence toward the development of the Oyo Kingdom and Nigeria.
Adeduntan is being formally installed today, Saturday, September 5, 2026, by the Alaafin of Oyo, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade I.
In his congratulatory message, President Tinubu acknowledged Adeduntan’s distinguished career in banking and finance, particularly his tenure as Group Chief Executive Officer of FirstBank, where he led what the President described as a far-reaching transformation of one of Nigeria’s oldest and most important financial institutions.
The President also highlighted Adeduntan’s contributions beyond the financial sector, including his service as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Abiola Ajimobi Technical University, as well as his philanthropic activities through the Adesola Adeduntan Foundation.
According to the President, the former banking executive has supported communities through investments in modern primary healthcare centres in Oyo and Ibadan, while also contributing to Nigeria’s solid minerals sector.
President Tinubu urged the newly installed traditional title holder to bring the same discipline, strategic foresight and commitment to excellence that characterised his professional career into his new traditional responsibilities.
The President described the installation as “both an honour and a call to greater service,” expressing confidence that Adeduntan would continue to use his experience and resources to promote peace, opportunity, development and the preservation of Oyo’s rich cultural heritage.
The development marks a new chapter in the public life of Adeduntan, whose career has spanned banking, education, philanthropy and national development.
The installation also underscores the enduring relationship between professional leadership and traditional institutions in Nigeria, as accomplished Nigerians increasingly bring their experience and networks into community leadership.
