ABUJA — Vice-President Kashim Shettima is marking his 60th birthday today, September 2, 2026, with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu leading tributes to the nation’s number two citizen.

President Tinubu, in a birthday message personally signed on Tuesday, described Shettima as his “brother,” trusted ally, valued colleague and patriot, commending his years of service to Borno State and Nigeria.

Tinubu highlighted Shettima’s distinguished career in banking and public service, particularly his tenure as Governor of Borno State and his subsequent role as Vice-President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The President also praised Shettima’s contribution to the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, noting his loyalty, dedication and role in coordinating economic policy as Chairman of the National Economic Council.

According to the President, Shettima’s commitment to national unity, constitutional governance, dialogue and consultation has made him an invaluable partner in the administration’s efforts to deliver on its promises to Nigerians.

Tinubu expressed confidence that both leaders would continue working together to make meaningful progress in building the Nigeria they envision, while praying for divine guidance, protection, wisdom and many more years of purposeful service for the Vice-President.

The milestone has also attracted goodwill from Nigerians, political associates and well-wishers across the country. However, Shettima had earlier appealed for the occasion to be observed quietly, asking friends and associates to avoid public birthday celebrations, congratulatory gatherings and goodwill advertisements across media platforms.

Rather than elaborate celebrations, the Vice-President urged well-wishers to channel their goodwill into prayers for Nigeria, particularly for the success of the Federal Government’s economic reforms, lasting solutions to security challenges, greater national unity and the peace and prosperity of Nigerians.

The 60th birthday therefore provides an opportunity to reflect on Shettima’s journey from the banking sector to public leadership, his tenure as Borno State Governor and his present responsibilities as Vice-President of Nigeria.

As tributes continue to pour in, the occasion has also renewed attention on the importance of leadership, national service and collective commitment to Nigeria’s development.

Enugu Media Village (EMV), the Most Updated Online News Platform, joins Nigerians in wishing Vice-President Kashim Shettima a happy 60th birthday and a successful continuation of his service to the nation.
