ENUGU, NIGERIA — As the 2027 General Elections draw closer, the question of continuity in Enugu State’s leadership has increasingly become a subject of public discourse. Against this backdrop, there is a compelling argument for Ndi Enugu to rally behind the administration of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah and support his bid for a second term.
The central argument is straightforward: another four years under Governor Mbah could provide the continuity required to consolidate the development programmes and reforms already underway across the state.
In the past three years, Enugu State has witnessed significant interventions across critical sectors, including education, healthcare, infrastructure, employment creation, security, agriculture, digital transformation and human capital development.
Across the 17 local government areas, several projects and initiatives of the Mbah administration have become visible landmarks of its development agenda. These include the establishment and upgrading of Smart Schools, the International Conference Centre, Enugu Air, modern transport terminals, the development of a 300-room hotel within the International Conference Centre complex, the resuscitation of Niger Gas, new layouts for emerging smart cities and the construction and rehabilitation of roads across the state.
The administration has also embarked on the development of 260 Smart Farms across the state’s wards, alongside investments in healthcare infrastructure, including world-class medical facilities and Type-2 hospitals designed to bring essential healthcare services closer to the people.
Another major area of emphasis has been the digital transformation of the state’s economy and public service. The ongoing civil service reforms and digitalisation initiatives are aimed at repositioning government institutions for greater efficiency, productivity and responsiveness.
Security has equally received renewed attention under the Mbah administration, with the deployment of modern equipment, surveillance technologies and a strengthened security architecture aimed at protecting lives, property and investments in Enugu.
The renovation and revival of previously moribund public assets, including the Presidential Hotel, have further formed part of the administration’s broader effort to restore strategic infrastructure and unlock their economic value.
Taken together, these projects and reforms represent an ambitious development agenda with impacts that are increasingly visible across the state.
A $30 Billion Economic Ambition
One of the administration’s most ambitious targets is the proposed transformation of Enugu’s economy from an estimated $4 billion to a $30 billion economy.
While achieving such a target requires sustained investment, strong institutions, private-sector participation and a stable policy environment, the argument for continuity is that ongoing programmes need sufficient time to mature, expand and deliver their full economic potential.
It is against this background that supporters of Governor Mbah believe his re-election in 2027 would provide the continuity required to consolidate the gains of the past three years and deepen the state’s development trajectory.
The Call for Political Unity
Hon. Anayo Edeh argues that political competition should not become a source of unnecessary distraction from the development of the state.
According to him, those considering the 2027 governorship race should place the broader interests of Enugu above individual political ambitions and carefully consider the implications of introducing avoidable divisions at a time when the state is pursuing an ambitious transformation agenda.
He particularly appealed for unity among political stakeholders in Nkanuland, stressing the importance of collective leadership and cooperation in advancing the interests of the people.
Edeh noted that Nkanu West has produced former Governor Chimaroke Nnamani, while Governor Mbah represents Nkanu East, describing the present administration as an important chapter in the political history of Nkanuland.
He therefore called on political actors from the area to approach the 2027 political contest with maturity, restraint and a strong sense of collective responsibility.
Enugu’s Rising Political Profile
Beyond development projects, Edeh also highlighted what he described as the growing visibility of Enugu State in national politics under Governor Mbah.
He argued that Enugu has increasingly assumed a more prominent position in national political conversations, rather than remaining on the sidelines of developments at the federal level.
For him, maintaining a strong and united political voice is essential if Enugu is to sustain its influence and attract greater opportunities, investments and federal attention.
Continuity as a Development Strategy
The debate over 2027, therefore, should not be viewed solely through the lens of political competition, according to Edeh. He believes it should also be examined from the perspective of continuity, development and the long-term interests of the people.
“Enugu is on the path of irreversible development,” he maintained, urging Ndi Enugu not to allow political disagreements to undermine the state’s development ambitions.
As the 2027 elections approach, the decision ultimately rests with the people of Enugu State. For supporters of Governor Mbah, however, the argument is that the projects, reforms and economic ambitions already underway deserve continuity rather than disruption.
The 2027 governorship election is therefore expected to be a major test of public confidence in the direction of the state and the administration’s development agenda.
