Maiden Enugu–Douala International Flight Opens a New Direct Air Corridor Between Southeast Nigeria and Central Africa.

ENUGU Air has officially launched its first international route, establishing a direct air connection between Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, and Douala International Airport in Cameroon.
The historic maiden flight was flagged off on Wednesday, September 23, by Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, marking a major expansion of the state-owned airline beyond its domestic operations. The inaugural aircraft flew from Enugu to Douala, where it was received by Cameroonian authorities, before returning to Enugu.
The new route creates a direct aviation link between Southeast Nigeria and Central Africa, reducing the need for travellers, traders and businesspeople in the region to rely on connecting routes through other Nigerian airports or lengthy overland journeys.
Enugu State Commissioner for Trade, Investment and Industry, Dr. Sam Ogbu-Nwobodo, described the development as a major step in strengthening trade, investment and economic integration, particularly by helping businesses access markets in Central Africa more directly.
Enugu Air’s Chief Operating Officer, Ugonna Agubuokwu, had earlier announced that the Enugu–Douala service would operate twice weekly, on Mondays and Wednesdays. The published schedule provides for departures from Enugu at 12:45 p.m., with arrival in Douala at 1:45 p.m., while the return flight is scheduled for 2:30 p.m., arriving in Enugu at 3:30 p.m.
The new international connection is also expected to provide greater convenience for passengers travelling from other Nigerian cities, including Lagos and Abuja, who can connect through Enugu to Douala.
The launch represents another development in Enugu’s efforts to strengthen its position as a regional aviation, commercial and investment hub, while providing new opportunities for tourism, business and cross-border economic activities.

With the Enugu–Douala route now operational, Enugu Air has taken its first major step into regional international aviation, connecting Southeast Nigeria directly with Cameroon and creating a new pathway for people, businesses and opportunities across the two countries.
