Hon. Engr. Uche Kelvin Edeh Leads High-Powered Delegation to Assess Development Projects, Engage Stakeholders, and Strengthen Grassroots Accountability in Uzo Uwani Local Government Area

In a bold demonstration of its commitment to transparency, grassroots engagement, and good governance, Enugu Media Village on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, embarked on a comprehensive accountability and project assessment visit to Uzo Uwani Local Government Area, led by its Director General, Hon. Engr. Uche Kelvin Edeh (UKE).

The delegation was warmly received by the Executive Chairman of Uzo Uwani LGA, Hon. Barr. Chijioke Ezugwu, alongside members of the Local Government Executive Council, traditional rulers, community leaders, women and youth representatives, as well as other critical stakeholders.

The visit formed part of Enugu Media Village’s statewide accountability initiative aimed at monitoring government projects, engaging directly with citizens, documenting developmental strides, and promoting transparency under the administration of His Excellency, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, Executive Governor of Enugu State.

Major Developmental Projects Receive Commendation

During the inspection tour, the Enugu Media Village delegation applauded the remarkable pace of development across Uzo Uwani Local Government Area.

Projects inspected included:

  • Ongoing rural road construction connecting several communities.
  • Smart Green Schools equipped with modern learning technologies.
  • Solar-powered streetlight installations across strategic locations.
  • Potable water projects serving rural communities.
  • Renovation and modernization of the Uzo Uwani Local Government Headquarters.
  • Construction of bridges linking agrarian communities to improve accessibility and economic activities.

The delegation described the projects as practical evidence of government’s commitment to inclusive development and improved quality of life for residents.

Human Capital Development Driving Inclusive Growth

The team also highlighted the impressive investments in human capital development championed by Governor Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah.

Programs focusing on youth empowerment, women empowerment, smart agriculture, educational scholarships, and entrepreneurship continue to transform lives across the state.

Particular commendation was given to the strategic distribution of motorcycles (Okada) to young people as an initiative designed to improve livelihoods and stimulate local economic activities.

The Mayor, Hon. Barr. Chijioke Ezugwu, was equally praised for aligning his administration with the Governor’s transformational vision and implementing people-oriented policies that are positively impacting communities throughout Uzo Uwani.

Security Restored Through Strategic Collaboration

Security emerged as one of the major highlights of the visit.

The delegation observed that the current administration inherited significant security challenges that had negatively affected economic activities within the Local Government.

However, through the collaborative efforts of Governor Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah and Mayor Hon. Barr. Chijioke Ezugwu, substantial progress has been recorded.

The deployment of heavily armed security personnel alongside the operational success of the Kwechiri Security Response Squad has significantly reduced criminal activities, restored public confidence, and created a safer environment for residents and businesses.

Residents Express Confidence in Government

Across the communities visited, residents openly expressed appreciation for the developmental strides recorded under the current administration.

Among those who spoke were:

  • Hon. Dieke Michael, Chief of Staff to the Executive Chairman of Uzo Uwani LGA.
  • Mrs. Ifeoma Chidiebere.
  • Chief Kingsley Onyeji, Coordinator of Enugu Media Village, Uzo Uwani Branch.
  • Community leaders, women groups, and youths.

The stakeholders unanimously praised Governor Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah for prioritizing Uzo Uwani, particularly in addressing insecurity and accelerating infrastructure development.

They also reaffirmed their continued support for the administration and pledged to sustain grassroots advocacy for the Governor’s developmental agenda.

Electrification and Transparent Governance Commended

The installation of solar-powered streetlights and a 250KVA transformer by the Local Government administration was described as a significant intervention capable of boosting commerce, improving public safety, and expanding economic opportunities.

The delegation equally applauded the deployment of project information boards across strategic locations to keep residents informed about ongoing and completed government projects, reinforcing transparency and citizen participation in governance.

Interactive Accountability Session with the Mayor

At the Uzo Uwani Local Government Council Hall, Director General Hon. Engr. Uche Kelvin Edeh (UKE) led an interactive accountability session with the Mayor.

Discussions focused on:

  • Security.
  • Staff welfare.
  • Infrastructure.
  • Economic development.
  • Education.
  • Water supply.
  • Electricity.
  • Cultural heritage preservation.

Responding to the questions, Hon. Barr. Chijioke Ezugwu appreciated the Enugu Media Village delegation for its commitment to promoting accountability and constructive engagement.

He reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to working closely with Governor Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah to ensure that the people of Uzo Uwani continue to enjoy the dividends of democracy.

The Mayor highlighted several achievements, including the upward review of salaries and monthly allowances for Neighbourhood Watch personnel, the establishment of the Kwechiri Response Squad, and the creation of a Command and Control Centre to strengthen community security.

He also emphasized his administration’s investments in education through scholarships for students, sponsorship of youths into tertiary institutions, and annual football competitions aimed at promoting unity, peace, and youth development.

Enugu Media Village Inaugurates Uzo Uwani LGA Working Committee

One of the defining moments of the visit was the official inauguration of the Enugu Media Village Uzo Uwani Local Government Working Committee.

Following a request by the Director General, Hon. Engr. Uche Kelvin Edeh (UKE), the inauguration was performed by the Executive Chairman, Hon. Barr. Chijioke Ezugwu.

The Mayor charged members of the committee to uphold professionalism, remain objective in documenting government projects, and continue promoting accountability, transparency, and responsible civic engagement throughout the Local Government Area.

High-Powered Delegation

The delegation was formally introduced by Amb. Dr. PraiseGod Edeh, Director of Information, Enugu Media Village.

Speaking during the visit, Hon. Adaobi Sarah Chukwu commended the Mayor’s achievements in tackling insecurity and promoting smart agriculture, while Hon. Princess Ifeoma Ezugwu applauded his resilience and unwavering commitment to delivering sustainable development across Uzo Uwani.

A Renewed Commitment to Grassroots Accountability

The visit concluded with prayers for sustained peace, accelerated development, and continued collaboration between the Enugu State Government, Uzo Uwani Local Government, and Enugu Media Village in advancing transparency, accountability, and people-centered governance across the state.
