The programme, themed “Women Leading the Way: 2026 Initiative Champions Peace, Unity and Community Development,” was convened by Hon. Barr. Obiajulu Princess Ugwu to promote women’s empowerment, strengthen community participation and support sustainable development at the grassroots.

Government Officials Charge Women on Peace, Unity and Responsible Use of Funds
Addressing the women and beneficiaries, the invited officials delivered different messages centred on responsible leadership, community development, women’s participation and the effective utilisation of the empowerment support.
Hon. Mrs. Ngozi Enih, Commissioner for Children, Gender Affairs and Social Development, was among the key government representatives at the gathering. Her presence highlighted the relevance of women’s empowerment and gender-focused initiatives in promoting inclusive development and improving the welfare of families and communities.
Hon. Engr. Uche Kelvin Edeh, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Research and Strategy, also participated in the programme, underscoring the importance of strategic thinking, responsible participation and initiatives that support development at the grassroots.
Similarly, Hon. Monday Diamond Ani, CEO/General Manager of the Community and Social Development Agency (CSDA), joined other dignitaries in engaging with the women and beneficiaries on issues relating to community development and the responsible management of empowerment resources.
A major message delivered at the event was the need for beneficiaries to utilise the funds judiciously and for the intended purposes. The women were encouraged to manage the resources responsibly, invest wisely in productive activities and ensure that the support translates into tangible benefits for themselves, their households and their communities.
The emphasis on prudent utilisation reflects the importance of accountability in empowerment programmes. Beyond receiving financial support, beneficiaries are expected to make thoughtful decisions that can help their initiatives grow, improve household income and create opportunities for long-term economic stability.
Women as Partners in Grassroots Development
The initiative further highlighted the important role women play in strengthening families, promoting peaceful coexistence and advancing community development.
Through entrepreneurship, social participation, family support and local leadership, women contribute significantly to the progress of their communities. Providing them with empowerment opportunities can help improve their economic independence while encouraging greater participation in local development efforts.
The gathering also reinforced the message that sustainable development requires collective responsibility, mutual support and a shared commitment to peace and unity.
As convener, Hon. Barr. Obiajulu Princess Ugwu brought together women and stakeholders around a common objective: encouraging women to take active roles in shaping a more peaceful, united and economically productive society.
The participation of government representatives and development stakeholders added to the programme’s focus on women’s advancement, responsible resource management and grassroots progress in Enugu State.
