JUST IN: Enugu APC Demands Apology from NDC over Airport, Secretariat Incidents.

Ruling Party Accuses Opposition of Misrepresenting Weekend Events as Political Tensions Rise Ahead of 2027 Elections.

Enugu Media Village (EMV), the Most Updated Online News Platform — October 13, 2026.

THE All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State has demanded an unreserved apology from the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) over conflicting accounts of incidents involving the opposition party at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport and its state secretariat over the weekend.

The APC accused the NDC of misrepresenting aspects of the incidents for political advantage, insisting that the opposition party should clarify its statements and apologise to the people of Enugu State and Nigerians if its claims are found to be inaccurate.

The demand followed a press conference by the Enugu State NDC Chairman, Emmanuel Chukwujekwu Nebo, who challenged aspects of the state government’s account of the events, as presented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia.

According to a report published by Vanguard on Tuesday, October 13, the APC’s position was communicated by its State Publicity Secretary, Chief Uche Obute.

Disagreement over Airport Gathering

The controversy partly centres on the gathering at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport on Saturday, October 10, 2026, organised in connection with the reception of the NDC’s governorship candidate, Chinyeaka Ohaa.

While the Enugu State Government said the proposed event was advertised as a statewide campaign flag-off and questioned whether the necessary approval had been obtained from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), the NDC maintained that its intention was to receive its candidate rather than conduct a campaign rally at the airport.

The opposition party also stated that it had notified relevant law enforcement agencies and made payments to FAAN.

The differing accounts have generated debate over the circumstances surrounding the gathering and the events that followed.

Secretariat Incident Raises Security Concerns

The disagreement also concerns a reported violent incident at the NDC state secretariat in Enugu, where a man identified as Ifeanyi Nworie reportedly sustained a gunshot injury.

The Enugu State Police Command has ordered an investigation into the incident, with the police stating that efforts were being made to identify and apprehend those responsible.

The incident has heightened concerns about the safety of political gatherings and the need for security agencies to establish the facts surrounding the reported violence.

The parties have presented differing accounts of aspects of the events, making a transparent investigation important to determining responsibility.

APC Urges Issue-Based Political Engagement

The APC called on political parties in the state to concentrate on presenting their manifestoes, explaining their policy proposals and engaging voters through peaceful democratic processes.

Chief Uche Obute questioned the NDC’s account of the reported injuries and challenged the party to clarify its statements concerning the incident.

However, the APC’s allegations against the NDC remain the ruling party’s position and should not be treated as independently established findings.

The NDC’s account also remains part of the ongoing public dispute surrounding the incidents.

Need for Peace and Credible Investigation

The developments have renewed attention on political conduct and public safety in Enugu State as parties prepare for the 2027 general elections.

A credible investigation, accurate public communication and restraint by political actors will be essential to preventing further tension and ensuring that citizens can participate in lawful political activities without fear.

The police investigation is expected to help establish the circumstances surrounding the secretariat incident, while the issues relating to the airport gathering continue to attract competing explanations from the parties involved.
