Educators Cite Smart Green Schools, Teacher Recruitment, Promotions and Increased Education Funding as Reasons for Supporting Continuity.
Enugu Media Village (EMV), the Most Updated Online News Platform— October 16, 2026.
TEACHERS in Enugu State have declared support for Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah’s second-term ambition and the re-election bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027, citing improvements in teachers’ welfare, recruitment, promotions and investment in education.
The endorsement was announced on October 10, 2026, during a rally organised by the Teachers for Grassroots Movement (TGM) at Okpara Square, Enugu. The event reportedly attracted educators from public, private and mission schools across the state.
Reports on the gathering indicated that participating teachers marched through parts of Enugu metropolis before converging at the venue, where speakers highlighted the importance of education to the state’s economic and social development.
Teachers Commend Mbah’s Education Policies
The Enugu State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Comrade Theophilus Odo, reportedly commended the Mbah administration for measures aimed at improving teachers’ welfare and strengthening the education sector.
Among the issues highlighted were teacher recruitment, promotion exercises, professional development, salary payments and the harmonisation of retirement benefits.
The teachers also praised the establishment of Smart Green Schools, describing the initiative as part of efforts to modernise education and improve the learning environment for pupils.
According to the organisers, the endorsement reflects their confidence in the administration’s education policies and their desire to see ongoing reforms sustained.
Smart Green Schools Attract Stakeholders’ Attention
The Chairman of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS) in Enugu State, Nelson Agu, also reportedly commended the government’s investment in the education sector.
He highlighted the Smart Green Schools initiative and its potential to encourage improvements in teaching facilities and educational standards across the state.
Enugu State has made education a central pillar of its development agenda, with investments in school infrastructure, digital learning, teacher recruitment and other interventions designed to expand access to quality education.
The state government has also emphasised increased budgetary allocations to education as part of its commitment to human-capital development.
Mbah Reaffirms Commitment to Education
Governor Peter Mbah has consistently maintained that education is essential to achieving his administration’s economic growth ambitions and preparing young people for emerging opportunities.
The administration’s education strategy includes modern school infrastructure, technology-enabled learning and measures to improve the quality of teaching and learning across the state.
The endorsement provides political support for the governor’s policies as preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum.
Nevertheless, the long-term impact of these reforms will ultimately be measured by improvements in learning outcomes, teachers’ working conditions, school attendance and students’ performance.
Political Implications Ahead of 2027
The endorsement by the Teachers for Grassroots Movement adds to the growing political conversations surrounding the next general elections.
The group has expressed its intention to mobilise support at the grassroots, while presenting education and teachers’ welfare as important considerations in evaluating political leadership.
However, the endorsement represents the position of the participating group and should not be interpreted as evidence that every teacher in Enugu State shares the same political preference.
As the 2027 elections approach, residents will continue to assess the performance of the state and federal governments in education, infrastructure, employment, security and other areas affecting their daily lives.
For Enugu State, sustaining education reforms and translating public investment into measurable improvements for teachers and learners remain critical priorities.
