ENUGU, ENUGU STATE — Women from different backgrounds gathered yesterday, Sunday, October 11, 2026, at the Royal Palace Hotel, Agbani Road, Enugu State, for a women-focused empowerment event themed “Building a Stronger Future: Women Mobilise for Unity, Peace and Sustainable Grassroots Development.”
The event, convened by Hon. Barr. Obiajulu Princess Ugwu, brought women together to promote unity, peaceful coexistence, empowerment and sustainable development at the grassroots level.
A major highlight of the gathering was the empowerment of several women, providing an opportunity to strengthen their participation in community development and encourage greater contributions to the social and economic growth of their communities.
The initiative underscored the importance of women’s empowerment as a pathway to building stronger families, promoting peaceful communities and creating opportunities for sustainable grassroots development. By bringing women together around shared objectives, the gathering also highlighted the value of collective action in addressing community needs and advancing inclusive development.
Hon. Barr. Obiajulu Princess Ugwu’s convening of the programme placed women’s participation at the centre of discussions on peace, unity and community progress. The event served as a platform for encouraging women to embrace collaboration, support one another and contribute meaningfully to initiatives that can improve lives across Enugu State.
Women remain important partners in grassroots development through their roles in family welfare, entrepreneurship, education, community leadership and peacebuilding. Programmes that combine empowerment with opportunities for collaboration can help strengthen their capacity to participate more actively in local development efforts.
The gathering at the Royal Palace Hotel therefore highlighted the need for sustained efforts to empower women, expand opportunities and promote a culture of peace and cooperation across communities.
As Enugu State continues to pursue development at different levels, initiatives that encourage women’s participation and support grassroots empowerment remain relevant to building inclusive and sustainable communities.
