Enugu Media Village (EMV), the Most Updated Online News Platform— October 15, 2026.

THE Enugu State Government has secured a $200 million investment, estimated at approximately ₦300 billion, for a proposed 100-megawatt (MW) solar power programme aimed at improving electricity supply to homes, businesses and industries across the state.

The investment was announced following a meeting between Governor of Enugu State, His Excellency, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, and a delegation from Eauxwell Nigeria Limited, led by its Managing Director, Mr. Edwin Enwegbara, at Government House, Enugu. The announcement was made public on October 8, 2026.

The proposed project forms part of the state government’s broader strategy to attract private investment, strengthen energy infrastructure and create an enabling environment for industrial development.

Solar Power Project to Support Homes and Businesses

According to information released by the state government, the proposed 100MW programme will deploy distributed solar power generation supported by battery storage systems.

The initiative is expected to improve electricity reliability for households, small and medium-sized enterprises, agricultural processors and other businesses whose operations depend on a dependable power supply.

Reliable electricity is a critical requirement for economic growth, particularly for manufacturers and businesses seeking to reduce operating costs, expand production and create employment opportunities.

For Enugu State, the proposed investment could support the administration’s ambition to expand productive economic activities and strengthen the state’s attractiveness to local and international investors.

Mbah Insists on Affordable Electricity

While welcoming the investment, Governor Mbah emphasised that the state’s objective goes beyond attracting capital, stressing that residents and businesses must ultimately benefit from reliable and affordable electricity.

The governor called for a review of the tariff assumptions and financial model presented by the investors to strike a balance between the investors’ need to recover their costs and consumers’ ability to pay for electricity.

He also urged the project developers to shorten the implementation timeline and pledged the state government’s support in addressing bureaucratic and institutional obstacles that could delay delivery.

The proposed electricity tariff is expected to be determined in consultation with the relevant electricity regulators.

Climate and Development Investment Platform Facilitates Deal

The investment engagement was facilitated through the Enugu State Climate and Development Investment Platform (CDIP), coordinated by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Climate and Sustainable Development, Professor Chukwumerije Okereke.

The platform was established to connect investors with government institutions, regulatory agencies and communities, with the objective of mobilising investment for development initiatives across the state.

The state government’s engagement with Eauxwell Nigeria Limited reflects its approach of using private-sector partnerships to support infrastructure expansion and economic transformation.

What the Project Could Mean for Enugu’s Economy

If successfully implemented, the proposed solar programme could contribute to:

  • Improved electricity supply: Providing additional power capacity for households, communities and businesses.
  • Industrial development: Supporting manufacturers and enterprises that require dependable electricity.
  • Business expansion: Helping small businesses and agricultural processors improve productivity.
  • Investment attraction: Strengthening the state’s appeal to investors seeking locations with improved energy infrastructure.
  • Renewable energy development: Expanding the use of solar power and battery storage in the state’s electricity mix.

However, the proposed capacity and anticipated benefits will depend on project implementation, financing arrangements, regulatory approvals, tariff decisions and the delivery timetable.

The announcement represents a significant proposed investment in Enugu’s energy sector, while the next important milestones will include confirmation of the implementation schedule, final tariff arrangements and progress towards delivering electricity to intended beneficiaries.

Enugu Media Village (EMV), the Most Updated Online News Platform, will continue to monitor the development of the solar power programme and other initiatives aimed at strengthening electricity supply, supporting industrialisation and advancing economic growth across Enugu State.
