THE Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced the collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and the display of the preliminary register of voters for claims and objections, marking another important step in preparations for Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.

The exercise, which began on Friday, October 9, 2026, provides eligible Nigerians with an opportunity to collect their voter cards, verify their registration details and identify any errors requiring correction through the appropriate electoral procedures.

In Enugu State, eligible residents across the 17 local government areas are encouraged to take advantage of the exercise, confirm their designated collection centres and complete the necessary procedures within the stipulated period.

The seven-day display of the preliminary register of voters is scheduled to run from October 9 to October 15, 2026. During this period, registered voters are encouraged to examine their details and report legitimate errors or objections to the appropriate INEC officials.

PVC COLLECTION: WHAT ELIGIBLE VOTERS NEED TO KNOW

Eligible voters who have yet to collect their PVCs are advised to confirm their collection status and follow the official instructions provided by INEC. Those who have recently registered, transferred their registration or requested replacement cards should verify the applicable arrangements before visiting a collection centre.

Residents are also encouraged to ensure that their names and other registration details are correctly captured in the preliminary register. Any identified discrepancies should be reported through the official channels within the designated period.

INEC EXERCISE AND THE IMPORTANCE OF VOTER PARTICIPATION

The commencement of PVC collection highlights the importance of early preparation for the 2027 general elections. The PVC remains a key requirement for eligible Nigerians to exercise their voting rights under Nigeria’s electoral framework.

Beyond collecting their cards, citizens are encouraged to remain informed about electoral guidelines, registration verification procedures and subsequent announcements from the commission.

For Enugu State, active participation in the process will help eligible voters prepare adequately for the forthcoming elections while strengthening public awareness of democratic responsibilities.

INEC’s exercise also presents an opportunity for citizens to demonstrate their commitment to peaceful participation, credible elections and the continued development of Nigeria’s democratic institutions.

Eligible residents are therefore advised not to wait until the last minute but to verify their details, confirm their collection arrangements and complete the required procedures within the official timeframe.
