ENUGU NORTH: ELECTORAL OFFICIALS ON THE MOVE

Enugu, September 26, 2026 — As Enugu State goes to the polls today for the 2026 Local Government Council Elections, reports from field agents of the Enugu Media Village (EMV) across the six Local Government Areas that make up the Enugu North Senatorial District indicate a calm and peaceful atmosphere as the electoral process gets underway.

As of this morning, personnel of the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC) were observed moving towards designated Ward Centres with election materials and other personnel ahead of the commencement of voting.

The EMV field reports cover Igbo Eze North, Igbo Eze South, Udenu, Igbo Etiti, Nsukka and Uzo-Uwani Local Government Areas, providing on-the-ground monitoring of developments as the election progresses.

CALM ATMOSPHERE ACROSS THE DISTRICT

Across the areas monitored by EMV field agents, the movement of electoral personnel was observed without reported disruptions at the time of filing this report. Residents, community members and other stakeholders were seen going about the electoral process in a generally calm atmosphere.

The peaceful movement of election officials and materials to the Ward Centres marks an important early stage of the voting process, as election personnel prepare their respective locations ahead of the arrival and accreditation of voters.

The 2026 Enugu State Local Government Council Elections are being conducted by ENSIEC across the state’s 17 Local Government Areas and 260 wards, with chairmanship and councillorship positions being contested.

EMV FIELD MONITORING

Enugu Media Village field agents remain deployed across the six LGAs within the Enugu North Senatorial District to monitor developments and provide timely reports from the various communities and Ward Centres.

Their observations will continue to focus on the movement of electoral personnel and materials, the general atmosphere around voting centres, voter participation, and other notable developments throughout the electoral process.

The development comes against the backdrop of preparations by ENSIEC, which had earlier stated that it was over 90 per cent ready for the September 26 election and had continued preparations involving electoral materials, personnel and logistics.

CALL FOR PEACEFUL PARTICIPATION

Political parties, candidates, voters and other stakeholders are expected to conduct themselves peacefully and in accordance with the applicable electoral guidelines throughout the process.

Ahead of the election, political parties participating in the poll signed a peace accord committing candidates and supporters to peaceful and non-violent participation.
