CP Mamman Giwa Orders Human and Vehicular Movement Restriction, Assures Voters of Adequate Security.

ENUGU State Police Command has announced a restriction on human and vehicular movement across the state as part of security measures for Saturday’s September 26, 2026 Local Government Council elections.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Giwa, ordered the restriction from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on election day, with exemptions for persons performing essential duties and duly accredited election officials. The directive was contained in a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe, on Thursday.
According to the Police Command, personnel, operational and intelligence assets have been deployed across the state’s 17 Local Government Areas and 260 wards to provide security before, during and after the elections.
CP Giwa also directed that quasi-security outfits should not participate in election security operations and ordered armed security personnel assigned to VIP escort duties not to accompany their principals to polling units.
The Commissioner assured residents and voters that the Command, in collaboration with other security agencies, had put adequate security arrangements in place for the elections. He urged eligible voters to come out and exercise their civic rights peacefully.
The Police Command further warned political parties, candidates and their supporters against electoral malpractice and any action capable of disrupting the peaceful conduct of the elections, stressing that violators would face the full weight of the law.
The Command also appealed to members of the public to promptly report suspicious persons or activities capable of undermining the elections to the nearest police station or through its emergency contact lines: 08032003702, 08086671202 and 08021709005.
Separately, the Enugu State Government has announced a broader restriction on vehicular movement and other forms of transportation from 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, with exemptions for election officials, security personnel, accredited observers, authorised media practitioners and essential emergency services.
The elections, organised by the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC), will cover chairmanship positions in the 17 Local Government Councils and councillorship positions across the 260 wards in the state.
