Campaigns, stakeholder engagements and voter mobilisation gather momentum across Enugu’s 17 LGAs.

Political activities have intensified across Enugu State as participating political parties and their candidates step up campaigns, consultations and mobilisation ahead of the September 26, 2026 Local Government Council elections.
The election, organised by the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC), will cover the state’s 17 Local Government Areas, with chairmanship and councillorship positions being contested.
The final days of the campaign period have seen political parties increase engagements with residents, community leaders, supporters and other stakeholders as they present their candidates and programmes to voters.
A significant development ahead of the poll was the signing of a Peace Accord by seven political parties on Monday. The parties committed themselves and their candidates to peaceful campaigns, non-violence, respect for opponents and compliance with the electoral process.
The accord also requires participating parties, candidates, agents and supporters to avoid hate speech, intimidation, harassment, destruction of property and other conduct capable of disrupting the election. Parties further agreed to pursue electoral disputes through lawful channels.
ENSIEC said the agreement was intended to support a peaceful and credible electoral process while providing a level playing field for participating parties.
Across the state, parties have continued to hold campaign events and political engagements. In Enugu East, for instance, the APC recently commenced its campaign, presenting flags to its chairmanship and councillorship candidates for the local government election.
The intensification of political activities comes against the backdrop of ENSIEC’s preparations for the September 26 poll. The commission has said arrangements are being concluded for the election and has urged political actors and voters to maintain peaceful conduct.
Meanwhile, the Enugu State Structures for Signage and Advertisement Agency (ENSSAA) has reiterated its ban on the unauthorised display and pasting of political posters across the state. The agency warned that violations could attract penalties of up to ₦50 million, alongside possible legal action.
With only a few days to the election, attention is now focused on final campaign activities, voter mobilisation, logistics, security arrangements and the conduct of the poll across the state’s 17 local government areas.
The September 26 election is expected to determine the elected leadership of the councils and councillorship representation at the grassroots level.
