ENUGU — Preparations for the CoalCity 2026 National Sports Festival have entered a crucial phase as Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, has directed the immediate activation of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) office and intensified mobilisation for the historic sporting event.
The governor gave the directive during a working visit by the Advisory Team of the Main Organising Committee (MOC) to the Enugu State Government House, where he received an update on preparations for the festival.
Mbah also ordered the commencement of media publicity, marketing, public sensitisation and nationwide mobilisation to build awareness and generate excitement ahead of the games.
The governor assured the organising team and residents of Enugu that the festival would not be postponed, stressing the need for all outstanding preparations to be completed within schedule.
The 2026 National Sports Festival represents a major opportunity for Enugu to showcase its sporting heritage, upgraded infrastructure and hospitality to athletes and visitors from across Nigeria.
The state has been upgrading key facilities, including the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium and Awgu Games Village, as part of its preparations to host a world-class festival.
