ENUGU, State has taken another major step towards strengthening its agricultural and agro-industrial sector with the official launch of new palm oil products by the Executive Governor of the State, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, at the Government House, Enugu, yesterday.

The launch marks a significant development in the state’s renewed efforts to revive palm oil production, promote local processing and create greater economic opportunities from its agricultural resources.

The products, developed through Enugu United Palm Products Limited (UPPL), represent part of the ongoing drive to reposition the state’s palm oil industry through modern production, processing and value addition.

Speaking at the launch, Governor Mbah underscored the importance of transforming agriculture from subsistence activity into a commercially viable sector capable of creating jobs, attracting investment and contributing significantly to the state’s economic growth.

The renewed focus on palm oil is expected to strengthen the entire value chain, from cultivation and harvesting to processing, packaging and distribution, while opening new opportunities for farmers, entrepreneurs and investors.

Enugu has a long history of palm production, with several communities across the state possessing significant agricultural potential for oil palm cultivation. The revival of the sector is therefore seen as an opportunity to reconnect local agricultural production with modern industry.

The launch also highlights the administration’s broader economic vision of encouraging local production and reducing dependence on products sourced from outside the state.

With increased investment in plantations, modern processing facilities and market-oriented agricultural initiatives, the palm oil sector could become an important contributor to employment generation, rural development and internally generated economic activity in Enugu.

Stakeholders are expected to build on the development by supporting farmers, expanding cultivation, improving access to modern agricultural practices and strengthening the market for locally produced palm oil and related products.

The launch of the products at Government House therefore signals a new chapter in Enugu’s palm oil story, with the state seeking to transform its agricultural heritage into a modern and commercially sustainable industry.
