The Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, has been honoured with the 2025 Best Crime-Busting Police Chief in West Africa Award by the Security Watch Africa Initiative.
The recognition places Enugu’s security leadership in the regional spotlight, following an assessment of the Commissioner’s policing record and professional contributions to peace, crime prevention and combating criminality in the state.
The award was presented at the Enugu State Police Command Headquarters, GRA, Enugu, by the International Coordinator and Chief Executive Officer of Security Watch Africa Initiative, Mr. Patrick Agbambu.
According to Agbambu, CP Giwa was selected after a review of his policing antecedents and professional contributions to security in Enugu State. He urged the Commissioner to sustain his proactive approach to crime prevention and strengthen result-oriented engagement between the police and the civil population.
In a further recognition for the Enugu Command, its Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, received the Best Police Public Relations Officer in Nigeria Award.
The twin honours were presented as part of the 19th Africa Security Watch Awards, following the Africa Security Watch Conference and Awards held in July 2026 in Banjul, The Gambia.
Responding to the recognition, CP Giwa expressed appreciation to the organisers and attributed the achievement to Almighty God, while acknowledging the support of the Enugu State Government, law-abiding citizens and other security stakeholders.
The Commissioner’s recognition comes against the backdrop of the Command’s reported security operations under his leadership. Earlier in 2026, CP Giwa disclosed that the Enugu Police Command had arrested thousands of suspects and rescued kidnapped victims as part of its intensified security operations.
The award is therefore being viewed as a significant recognition of the Command’s ongoing efforts in crime fighting, policing and public safety across Enugu State.
For the people of Enugu, the honour also underscores the importance of sustained collaboration among security agencies, government, communities and residents in building a safer and more secure state.
