ABUJA — Political activities ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections are gathering momentum as various political groups, support organisations and party stakeholders intensify mobilisation across different parts of the country.
At the centre of the emerging political contest is President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bid for a second term, with several support groups stepping up grassroots engagement and seeking to consolidate support for the President ahead of the election.
One of the latest developments came after the Hope Alive Initiative unveiled a multi-platform grassroots campaign aimed at canvassing support for Tinubu’s re-election following the lifting of the campaign ban by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The renewed mobilisation reflects a broader effort by pro-Tinubu groups to take the President’s message beyond traditional party structures and directly into communities, youth groups, women organisations and other grassroots constituencies.
Earlier, the Tinubu Torch Bearers, a women-led grassroots mobilisation platform associated with the All Progressives Congress (APC), was inaugurated with the stated objective of promoting the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda and strengthening support for the President’s second-term bid.
Other support organisations have also declared their backing. The Grassroots Mobilisation for APC PBAT Nationwide, for instance, endorsed Tinubu for another term and commenced nationwide mobilisation, while other groups have similarly announced ambitious grassroots vote-targeting initiatives.
Political support for the President is also being reported across regions. In the North-East, political stakeholders led by Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum and former Secretary to the Government of the Federation Babagana Kingibe publicly backed Tinubu’s second-term bid while highlighting infrastructure, security and economic reforms as reasons for their position.
The political movement is not limited to APC structures. In Ekiti State, individuals and groups associated with opposition political platforms have also emerged in support of Tinubu’s 2027 ambition, illustrating the fluid political realignments already taking place ahead of the election.
For Tinubu’s supporters, the 2027 contest is increasingly being framed around continuity and the opportunity to consolidate policies and projects initiated since the administration assumed office in 2023.
However, the emerging political environment is expected to be highly competitive. Opposition parties and political movements are also strengthening their structures, mobilising supporters and preparing their own candidates and campaign narratives.
