ENUGU, NIGERIA — The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State has declared that Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah deserves a second term in office, citing what the party described as his administration’s development strides, infrastructure projects and contributions to peace and progress across the state.
The declaration was made by the Enugu State APC Chairman, Dr. Martin Chukwunweike, during the party’s campaign activities ahead of the September 26, 2026 local government elections.
According to reports, APC campaign rallies were held across Udenu, Igbo-Eze North and Igbo-Eze South Local Government Areas, where party leaders formally presented flags to the party’s chairmanship and councillorship candidates. The rallies attracted party supporters, traditional rulers, market and trade union leaders, women, youths and other stakeholders.
Chukwunweike said the administration’s infrastructural projects across the three senatorial zones had contributed to placing Enugu among Nigeria’s highly rated states.
He further urged residents to support Governor Mbah’s second-term ambition, stressing that the call was based on the governor’s performance rather than merely following the traditional expectation that elected governors should seek two terms.
The APC chairman also linked the party’s growing confidence to its performance in the June 20 Enugu North Senatorial District by-election, which he described as a litmus test ahead of the September local government polls.
The latest declaration adds to a growing political conversation around the 2027 Enugu State governorship election, with various groups and political stakeholders having expressed support for Governor Mbah’s return to office.
Earlier in the year, stakeholders in Enugu East Senatorial District also endorsed Mbah for another term, while the Enugu State Traditional Rulers Council had previously expressed support for his second-term bid.
With political activities gathering momentum ahead of the 2027 elections, Governor Mbah’s performance, ongoing development projects and emerging political alignments are expected to remain major issues in Enugu’s political discourse.
The APC has meanwhile intensified its grassroots mobilisation as it prepares for the September 26 local government elections and the broader political contest ahead of 2027.
