ENUGU, NIGERIA — Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, has been named among prominent Nigerians and institutions to be honoured at the Daily Times Nigeria @100 Centenary Awards, where he will receive the prestigious Daily Times Innovation and Infrastructure Award.

The award ceremony is scheduled for September 3, 2026, at the ThisDay Dome in Abuja, as part of activities marking the 100th anniversary of Daily Times Nigeria, one of the country’s oldest surviving newspapers.

Recognition for Innovation and Urban Transformation:

According to reports on the awards, Governor Mbah’s selection for the Innovation and Infrastructure Award is linked to his administration’s investments in smart governance, security and urban renewal.

The recognition places Enugu among states attracting national attention for development initiatives aimed at modernising public administration, improving infrastructure and creating a more secure and functional urban environment.

The award is also significant against the backdrop of the state government’s broader economic transformation agenda, which places infrastructure, technology, human capital development and investment attraction at the centre of Enugu’s development strategy.

Part of a Distinguished National Roll of Honour:

Governor Mbah is listed alongside several prominent Nigerians who will receive different categories of the DTN@100 Heroes Awards.

Other honourees include Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume; Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu; Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma; Niger State Governor, Umaru Bago; President of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote; Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi; and other notable personalities.

The organisers say the centenary awards are designed to recognise individuals and institutions whose contributions have made significant impact in governance, business, security, innovation, economic development and nation-building.

Mbah Accepts Recognition:

Governor Mbah had earlier formally accepted a separate Daily Times Nigeria @100 Outstanding Governor Award (South East) and expressed appreciation for the recognition of his administration’s efforts in good governance, economic development, human capital development, infrastructure and improved quality of life for Enugu residents.

In his acknowledgement, the governor also congratulated Daily Times Nigeria on attaining 100 years, describing a vibrant and responsible media as important to strengthening democracy and advancing national development.

A Milestone for Enugu:

For Enugu State, the Innovation and Infrastructure Award represents a significant national recognition of the administration’s development direction and its emphasis on using technology, infrastructure and urban renewal to reposition the state.

As Enugu continues to pursue its ambition of becoming a more competitive destination for investment, tourism, enterprise and innovation, the recognition further places the state’s development story within a broader national conversation on sub-national leadership and economic transformation.

Enugu Media Village (EMV) notes that the forthcoming honour will provide another opportunity to spotlight Enugu’s evolving development trajectory and the administration’s efforts to build a modern, secure and economically vibrant state.

The Daily Times @100 Centenary Awards will ultimately celebrate not only a century of journalism, but also the individuals and institutions contributing to Nigeria’s continuing story of growth, innovation and nation-building.
