ENUGU, NIGERIA — The Enugu Media Village (EMV) hereby informs residents, visitors, sports enthusiasts, participants and the general public of the upcoming Enugu City Marathon, scheduled to take place on Saturday, August 29, 2026.
The event is expected to bring together athletes, fitness enthusiasts, families, young people and members of the wider community in a celebration of sports, healthy living, unity and the vibrant spirit of Enugu.
The marathon is also part of the broader vision of positioning Enugu as a modern, healthy and vibrant destination for major sporting and community events. The Executive Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah, is intentionally preparing Enugu for this new era by supporting initiatives and creating an environment that promotes sports, fitness, tourism, infrastructure development and a healthier population.
Under Governor Mbah’s leadership, the Enugu City Marathon reflects a deliberate effort to encourage residents to embrace active lifestyles while showcasing the state’s growing capacity to host events that attract athletes, visitors and participants from within and beyond Nigeria.
Race Schedule & Locations
The marathon will feature two major race categories:
- 42KM Elite Race: The race will commence at 6:30 AM from ShopRite, Polo Park, Abakaliki Road.
- 10KM Fun Run: The fun run will commence at 8:30 AM from Chris Tee Petrol Station, CIC Road.
- Finish Line: Participants in both races will conclude at Michael Okpara Square, Independence Layout.
- Race Conclusion: The races and associated activities are scheduled to conclude by 12:30 PM.
Marathon Expo & Kit Collection
Ahead of race day, participants and members of the public are invited to the Marathon Expo and Kit Collection, holding from Monday, August 24, to Friday, August 28, 2026, at Michael Okpara Square, Independence Layout.
The pre-race expo will feature a variety of activities, including:
- Vendor displays and exhibitions.
- Health and wellness exhibitions.
- Cultural showcases.
- Marathon kit collection and other participant-focused activities.
Public Advisory
Residents and road users are encouraged to take note of the race routes and scheduled activities and make appropriate arrangements for their movements on Saturday, August 29, particularly during the early morning hours.
The Enugu City Marathon represents an opportunity to promote fitness, healthy living, community participation, tourism and the positive image of Enugu as a growing destination for major sporting events.
