THE Member representing Enugu North and South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Sam Chimaobi Atu, has commended Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah for supporting grassroots development initiatives through the Enugu State Community and Social Development Agency (CSDA).
Atu made the commendation on Thursday, October 8, during a courtesy visit to the agency, where he was received by its General Manager, Chief Monday Diamond Ani.
According to a report by Naija Central, the federal lawmaker praised the state government’s support for rural development interventions aimed at improving the welfare of vulnerable populations and residents of underserved communities.
He also acknowledged the efforts of the CSDA management team, noting that its activities were contributing to community development and improved access to essential services.
The lawmaker described the agency’s leadership as committed to delivering meaningful results at the grassroots, while emphasising that public service should prioritise community needs, empowerment and sustainable opportunities.
Atu further commended Ani for his leadership and dedication to advancing the agency’s mandate.
CSDA Strengthens Community Development Interventions
The Enugu State Community and Social Development Agency is responsible for supporting community-level development initiatives and interventions designed to reduce poverty, improve living conditions and expand access to essential services.
Information published on the agency’s official website indicates that its activities span all 17 local government areas of Enugu State, with interventions covering community infrastructure, water supply, healthcare facilities, livelihood support and economic empowerment.
The agency’s website reports 146 completed projects across 146 communities, 97 ongoing projects and an estimated 400,000 lives impacted. These figures reflect the agency’s published account of its interventions.
Through the Nigeria Community Action for Resilience and Economic Stimulus (NG-CARES) programme, the agency has also supported projects intended to strengthen community resilience, improve access to basic services and create opportunities for rural households.
Such interventions are particularly important to communities where access to potable water, functional health facilities, sanitation and livelihood opportunities remains central to improving living standards.
Agency Boss Welcomes Collaboration
In his response, Ani expressed appreciation for the lawmaker’s visit and highlighted the importance of cooperation between the agency and political representatives in advancing community development.
He noted that stronger collaboration could help deepen people-oriented interventions, particularly across communities within the Enugu North and Enugu South Federal Constituency.
The engagement also provided an opportunity to discuss the role of sustained partnerships in extending development interventions to more residents and addressing local needs.
Sustaining Grassroots Development
The visit underscores the importance of collaboration among government agencies, elected representatives and local communities in identifying development priorities and delivering projects that respond to the needs of residents.
For such interventions to achieve lasting impact, effective project monitoring, transparent resource management, community participation and regular assessment of completed projects remain essential.
As Enugu State continues to pursue its development objectives, the effectiveness of grassroots programmes will ultimately be measured by their tangible impact on people’s lives, including improved access to basic services, stronger livelihoods and more inclusive community development.
