Former Governor of old Anambra State, Senator Jim Nwobodo, seen blessing Governor Peter Mbah and endorsing his second-term bid during the Enugu East Zonal Mega Rally held at Okpara Square, Enugu, on Saturday, June 6, 2026.
Residents, stakeholders and supporters from across Enugu East Senatorial Zone converged on Okpara Square, Enugu, on Saturday for the Enugu East Zonal Mega Rally, where Governor Peter Mbah and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu received overwhelming endorsements for a second term in office.
The rally attracted participants from the six local government areas that make up the senatorial zone. Local government chairmen, many of whom were recently returned for a second term, attended with their supporters in what organisers described as a show of solidarity and appreciation for the administration’s development efforts.
In a unanimous demonstration of support, members of the Enugu State House of Assembly and National Assembly representatives from the zone moved motions endorsing Governor Mbah for a second term. The motions were adopted without objection, reflecting what speakers described as a broad consensus among political leaders and stakeholders in the zone.
Several prominent leaders who addressed the gathering, including Dr. Kingsley Ude, SAN, representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu; former Senate President, Senator Ken Nnamani, GCON; Senator Jim Nwobodo; and the APC Deputy National Chairman (South), Dr. Ben Nwoye, commended Governor Mbah’s performance in office. They cited achievements in infrastructure, education, healthcare, security, economic development and public sector reforms.
A major highlight of the rally was the presentation of the traditional Ofor by traditional rulers from Enugu East Zone. The sacred symbol of Igbo authority and legitimacy, which represents justice, truth, ancestral legitimacy and moral uprightness, was bestowed on Governor Mbah as a reaffirmation of confidence in his leadership. The traditional rulers also renewed the blessings associated with the Ofor, which was first presented to him three years ago.

The Planning Committee, chaired by the Commissioner for Local Government, Rural Development and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Okey Ogbodo, also presented a cheque of ₦300 million as financial and moral support for the governor’s re-election campaign.

Speaking at the rally, Governor Mbah expressed appreciation for the support shown by the people of Enugu East Senatorial Zone. He assured residents of Enugu East, Enugu North and Enugu West Senatorial Zones that the developmental needs of each area would continue to receive priority attention.
Reaffirming his administration’s vision, the governor said his mission remained to bring opportunities home to the people of Enugu State through sustained investments in infrastructure, technology, education, agriculture, security, enterprise development and uninterrupted electricity, including the planned coal-fired power project expected to be flagged off soon.
Governor Mbah also thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support and partnership with Enugu State and urged party members and residents to support the President and candidates of the ruling party in future elections.
The rally concluded peacefully, with security personnel maintaining a visible presence within and around Okpara Square throughout the event.
