ENUGU STATE Governor, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, has denied allegations that he ordered the withdrawal of approval for a private event centre booked for a town hall meeting organised under the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), which was expected to feature Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

The controversy followed reports that the management of Amadeo Event Centre in Enugu withdrew permission for the gathering scheduled for Thursday, 29 October 2026. Organisers alleged that the decision disrupted their preparations for the event. The allegations have not been independently established.

Mbah: “I Did Not Give Such an Order”

Reacting to a video circulating on social media, Governor Mbah described the allegation that he directed the venue’s withdrawal as false, insisting that he had no involvement in the decision.

The governor also cautioned political actors against making defamatory statements, noting that democratic freedom of expression does not remove the responsibility to avoid damaging allegations.

His response was reported by multiple Nigerian media outlets on Thursday.

NDC Raises Concerns Over Venue Withdrawal

Officials of the NDC had alleged that the venue was withdrawn shortly before the scheduled meeting, raising concerns about the circumstances surrounding the decision.

The gathering was expected to feature Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso as part of the party’s planned political engagement in Enugu.

However, the governor’s denial places the focus on the need to establish the circumstances surrounding the venue’s decision and whether any external influence was involved.

Transparency and Political Participation

The incident has generated public discussion about political participation, freedom of association and the ability of political parties to organise peaceful gatherings.

While the NDC’s allegations and Governor Mbah’s denial have been publicly reported, the available accounts do not conclusively establish that the governor ordered the venue’s withdrawal. Further clarification from the event centre and relevant parties would help establish the full circumstances.

As political activities continue ahead of the 2027 general elections, clear communication, verifiable evidence and respect for lawful political participation remain important to public confidence in the democratic process.
