THE ENUGU State Police Command has arrested a 30-year-old man, identified as Ugbor Chika Paul, over allegations of serial rape, robbery and sextortion involving female victims in the state.
According to a police statement issued on October 27 and signed by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, investigators recovered a mobile phone reportedly containing nude images and videos of identified and unidentified women.
Suspect Allegedly Targeted Female POS Operators
The police said preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect allegedly targeted female Point-of-Sale (POS) operators, luring them to secluded locations under the pretext of conducting business transactions before robbing and sexually assaulting them.
The report detailed two alleged incidents involving POS operators at Akwata Market in Enugu. In the first case, a 20-year-old woman was allegedly robbed of ₦600,000 and sexually assaulted at a location near Coal Camp on May 21, 2026.
In a separate incident on August 11, another POS operator, aged 30, was allegedly robbed of ₦120,000 after the suspect reportedly attempted to rape her.
Facebook Account Allegedly Used to Lure Another Victim
The police further alleged that the suspect used Facebook under the name “Franklin Umeh” to establish contact with another woman before luring her to a location in Enugu on October 4, 2026.
According to the report, the 21-year-old victim was subsequently taken to a bush around Udi Siding, where she was allegedly raped, sexually assaulted and recorded in nude images. The suspect reportedly stole ₦100,000 and her mobile phone before threatening to circulate the video unless she paid ₦200,000.
The police also alleged that the suspect used the victim’s phone to contact some of her WhatsApp contacts.
Police Investigation Continues
The Command confirmed that investigations were ongoing and stated that the suspect would be arraigned in court upon their conclusion. The allegations have yet to be determined by a court.
The Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting residents against sexual violence, robbery and other criminal activities.
The police also appealed to other potential victims to come forward with relevant information that could assist the investigation. Women who have experienced cyberstalking, sexual violence or sextortion were encouraged to report such incidents to the appropriate authorities.
