The programme, themed “Women as Agents of Change: Sustaining Renewed Momentum for a United and Progressive Society in 2026,” was convened by Hon. Barr. Dignitaries Charge Women on Accountability and Effective Use of Funds

The dignitaries at the event delivered different messages to the women of Enugu South Local Government Area, emphasising the importance of responsible conduct, peacebuilding, unity and the judicious utilisation of empowerment resources.

Hon. Mrs. Ngozi Enih, Commissioner for Children, Gender Affairs and Social Development, participated in the programme, which aligned with the broader objectives of promoting women’s welfare, gender inclusion and social development. Her presence reinforced the importance of creating opportunities that enable women to participate actively in building stronger families and more inclusive communities.

Hon. Engr. Uche Kelvin Edeh, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Research and Strategy, was also among the dignitaries who engaged with the women. The programme provided an opportunity to highlight the value of strategic thinking, responsible participation and community-driven initiatives in achieving sustainable grassroots development.

Similarly, Hon. Monday Diamond Ani, CEO/General Manager of the Community and Social Development Agency (CSDA), joined other stakeholders in reinforcing the importance of effective resource management and community advancement.

A key message to the beneficiaries was the need to utilise the funds judiciously, responsibly and for their intended purposes. The women were encouraged to make productive decisions, manage the resources carefully and channel the support towards activities capable of improving their economic circumstances.

The emphasis on prudent use of funds underscored the principle that empowerment goes beyond receiving financial assistance. Beneficiaries are expected to translate the support into meaningful outcomes through responsible planning, productive investments and a commitment to improving their livelihoods.

Women at the Centre of Sustainable Development

The initiative highlighted the vital role women play as agents of change in society. Through entrepreneurship, family development, community leadership, peacebuilding and social participation, women contribute significantly to the progress and stability of their communities.

By empowering women and encouraging collaboration, initiatives of this nature can help strengthen local economies, expand opportunities and promote greater participation in community development.

The gathering also emphasised the importance of unity and peaceful coexistence as foundations for a progressive society. Women were encouraged to support one another, embrace constructive engagement and contribute to initiatives that promote harmony and collective advancement within Enugu South and beyond.

As convener, Hon. Barr. Obiajulu Princess Ugwu brought women and development stakeholders together around a shared vision of sustained empowerment, stronger communities and inclusive progress.

The participation of government officials and development stakeholders further drew attention to the importance of partnerships in advancing women’s empowerment and ensuring that grassroots initiatives deliver practical benefits to their intended beneficiaries.

The programme’s central message was clear: women can play an even greater role in building a united and progressive society when they are empowered, supported and encouraged to use available opportunities responsibly.

Sustaining the Momentum for a Progressive Enugu

The event concluded its key message around the need to sustain the momentum for women’s empowerment, peaceful coexistence and community development through responsible action and collective commitment.

For the beneficiaries, the support received represents an opportunity to strengthen their livelihoods and contribute to the development of their households and communities. Its long-term value will depend on prudent management, productive application and the willingness to turn the opportunity into sustainable progress.

The initiative reinforces the importance of recognising women not merely as beneficiaries of development programmes, but as active partners in shaping a more peaceful, inclusive and prosperous society.
