The Enugu State Government has constituted Development Centres across the state, following the approval by Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah for the appointment of administrators, secretaries and members to fill existing vacancies in the centres.
The appointments, announced by the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, are part of the administration’s efforts to strengthen grassroots participation in governance and decision-making, while promoting inclusivity and broad-based representation across communities.
According to the announcement, the newly appointed officials are expected to provide communities with effective channels to contribute to government programmes and policies, while enhancing coordination of grassroots development initiatives.
The state government said the appointments are also intended to facilitate greater community engagement and responsiveness, ensuring that the administration’s development agenda is implemented with meaningful participation from people at the community level.
The appointments cut across several local government areas in the state, including Aninri, Awgu, Enugu East, Enugu North, Enugu South, Ezeagu, Igbo Etiti, Igbo-Eze North, Igbo-Eze South, Isi-Uzo and Nkanu East.
In Aninri Local Government Area, four Development Centres—Aninri East, Aninri North, Aninri South and Aninri West—were constituted, with each centre comprising an administrator, secretary and eight members.
Similarly, four centres were listed for Awgu Local Government Area: Anike, Awgu, Mbanabo North and Mbanabo South Development Centres.
In Enugu East, the government constituted Enugu East Central, Enugu East, Iyiukwu and Ujodo West Development Centres, while four centres were also listed for Enugu North and another four for Enugu South.
The constitution of Development Centres also extends to Ezeagu, Igbo Etiti, Igbo-Eze North and Igbo-Eze South Local Government Areas, with appointed officials representing various communities within the respective centres.
For Isi-Uzo Local Government Area, appointments were announced for Amanyi Isi-Uzo, Eha-Amufu West, Eha-Amufu East and Isi-Uzo Central Development Centres. Nkanu East has two centres listed in the announcement—Amankanu and Asu Nkano Development Centres.
The state government said the appointments are intended to deepen the reach of governance at the local level and create stronger mechanisms for community participation in government initiatives.
The newly appointed administrators, secretaries and members are expected to contribute to the coordination of grassroots development efforts and strengthen communication between communities and the state government.
The development centres are therefore positioned as part of the administration’s broader effort to ensure that governance and development initiatives are more responsive to the needs and aspirations of communities across Enugu State.
