The Federal Government has officially opened the 2026 National Youth Confab, calling on young Nigerians to move beyond discussions and develop practical, measurable solutions to challenges confronting the country.

The Minister of Youth Development, Comrade Ayodele Olawande, made the call while declaring the Confab open at the National Counter Terrorism Centre in Abuja on Friday.

The Confab, themed “Next Gen Nigeria: Crafting Solutions, Owning the Future,” provides a platform for young Nigerians to exchange ideas, examine national challenges and opportunities, and contribute to policies and programmes affecting their lives.

Olawande identified unemployment, skills development, access to finance, education, digital inclusion, entrepreneurship, peace and security, and access to opportunities among the major issues requiring sustained attention.

He urged participants to go beyond identifying problems by developing realistic recommendations, partnerships and measurable actions capable of improving programmes, expanding opportunities and strengthening accountability.

The Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Youth Development, Dr. Maryam Ismaila Keshinro, also emphasised the importance of meaningful youth participation in national development, urging participants to translate their ideas into practical actions.

The Confab brings together young Nigerians around key areas including governance and leadership, economic transformation and job creation, education and skills, technology and innovation, climate change and energy transition, as well as social harmony and security.

The Federal Government had earlier announced that the physical conference would involve youth representation from Nigeria’s 360 federal constituencies, alongside representatives of Nigerians in the diaspora. Mechanisms including a Youth Confab Impact Index and youth-led monitoring and accountability framework are also planned to help track outcomes.

The government has called on young Nigerians to take ownership of the process and contribute ideas capable of shaping policies and programmes for the country’s future.
