The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to consolidating the economic reforms of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, saying the measures undertaken over the past three years have laid stronger foundations for economic growth, stability and shared prosperity.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, stated this as part of activities marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary, with the Federal Government stressing the need to translate emerging economic gains into improved living standards and greater opportunities for Nigerians.
According to the Federal Government, Nigeria’s real Gross Domestic Product grew by 4.43 per cent in the second quarter of 2026, compared with 4.23 per cent in the corresponding period of 2025. It also pointed to strengthening foreign reserves, expanding domestic refining capacity and increased investment and productive activity.
President Tinubu, in his Independence Day address, said the country had reached a new phase in its economic journey, with the government’s focus shifting from correcting structural weaknesses and stabilising the economy to achieving shared and widespread prosperity.
He identified reducing the cost of living, expanding agricultural production, strengthening infrastructure, promoting industrial growth, creating productive jobs and improving access to finance and skills as key priorities for the next phase.
The President also said the administration would continue investments in roads, railways and ports while expanding mechanised agriculture, digital connectivity and support for businesses to increase production and employment.
The Federal Government has, however, acknowledged that significant challenges remain and stressed that the gains of reform must translate into tangible improvements in the lives of ordinary Nigerians.
As Nigeria marks 66 years of independence, the government says the priority is to consolidate economic stability, deepen growth and ensure that opportunities created by economic reforms increasingly reach households and communities across the country.
