Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has granted absolute pardon to 130 inmates across custodial facilities in the state and commuted the death sentences of four other inmates to life imprisonment.
The governor announced the exercise of his constitutional prerogative of mercy on Thursday as part of activities marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary.
According to the governor, the decision followed consultations with the State Advisory Council on the Prerogative of Mercy. The four death sentences commuted to life imprisonment are those of Zuhumnan Musa, Jeremiah Aese, Pam Lang and Thoma Danboyi.
Mutfwang said the gesture was in keeping with the spirit of the Independence anniversary and urged Nigerians to remain committed to national unity, peace, justice and development.
