30-year-old suspect arrested after woman’s remains were allegedly discovered inside apartment in Olympic Layout, One-Day.

ENUGU — The Enugu State Police Command has arrested a 30-year-old man, identified as Okpara Chibuike Emmanuel, over the alleged murder of his girlfriend in the Olympic Layout, One-Day area of Enugu.
The victim, identified only as Chinyere, has yet to have her surname, age and address publicly established, according to the police.
The arrest followed information received by the police concerning the alleged killing. Police operatives attached to the Awkunanaw Division reportedly arrested the suspect at about 6:30 p.m. on September 21, 2026, after he had allegedly been confronted and apprehended by residents. The police said the suspect was rescued from an angry mob before being taken into custody.
According to the preliminary account released by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, the alleged incident occurred on September 19, 2026, following an argument between the suspect and the deceased.
The police said preliminary investigations indicated that the woman’s remains were allegedly wrapped in nylon and concealed inside the toilet of the suspect’s apartment.
The discovery reportedly followed an offensive odour from the apartment, which attracted neighbours. According to the police account, the neighbours forced the door open and discovered the woman’s decomposing remains before apprehending the suspect and alerting law-enforcement authorities.
The police further said that during preliminary interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed to striking the woman on the head with a pestle during an argument concerning allegations about HIV infection.
The circumstances surrounding the alleged death remain subject to investigation, and the police account represents preliminary information rather than a judicial finding of guilt.
The victim’s remains have reportedly been evacuated to a mortuary for preservation and autopsy, while efforts are ongoing to establish her full identity and locate and notify her relatives.
Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, directed the State Criminal Investigation Department to conduct a discreet and thorough investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged killing.
The police command said the suspect is expected to be arraigned in court after the conclusion of investigations.
The Commissioner also urged members of the public, particularly young women, to exercise caution concerning people they visit or spend time with and to keep trusted relatives or friends informed about their movements.
The incident has drawn attention to the importance of peaceful conflict resolution, personal safety and prompt intervention whenever domestic or relationship disputes appear to be escalating.
As the investigation continues, authorities are expected to establish the full circumstances of the woman’s death and determine the appropriate legal action based on the evidence gathered.
